Not only won the Endeavour twice as a helm but also once as a crew in '94, so says the Endeavour website.

Seriously talented sailor and a quiet unassuming guy.  I didn't know him well, but  I know he was well respected and liked.  He was always quick to smile and say hi, and I'm sure he'll leave a big hole in many fleets and many lives.

Sympathy to all who he has left behind.

How very sad, I saw him at GP Worlds and he seemed such a nice jolly man.

What a sad shock.

Richard was very helpful and went out of his way to get gear together for me to collect from the Dinghy Show when I lived in Holland.

The Fireball and GP14 fleets won't be the same without him, to name but two.

Rich was an awesome person! a great sailor and the best mate anyone could wish for. I only wish he could have enjoyed the coming season, he had a full diary and was keen to get on the water. We will all miss him dearly, on the water and in the bar! Thank you Richard for giving me the pleasure of sailing with you for so long it has been an honour and a privalege. I will never forget our times together, I will always love you!

Rich was extremely kind and generous! He gave me my break into
sailmaking, without which the only other choice for me was joining the army
to get shot at. He was really supportive and always made time for me.
I wish I'd had the chance to race against him in a championship. He would
have whooped my ass but I would have liked to race him.

I am still in shock, Rich was a part of sailing, he was an awesome competitor, brilliant fun off the water, very helpful with boats, rigging and sailins and a good friend. It is sad that he should leave us so early.

What a true Gent, always modest, sporting and friendly. And what natural talent, unteachable. Fondly remembered in Ireland. Thankfully he visited us often. Rest in peace Rich.
