I had a Holt mainsheet block on my Laser. It lasted 2 weeks before coming to a grinding halt! I then went for a Harken and had no problems in over 2 years of racing.
Also having issues with the Holt supplied blocks on the XD pack on my latest Laser. As for their effort at the vang lower block assembly don't get me started! I always uncleats at the most annoying moments. I have a Harken for my 8.1 and have no issues at all with it. |

The A2030GTI has ultra tough cnc machined aluminium cheeks to prevent rope wear, and extra deep rope guards to prevent lines de-railing from the sheave and jamming. It is expensive (and a bit bling) but it is a special one off. Proboat are our UK distributors - we will make sure they get the moulded range of Ezi-ti blocks in stock and out to the chandlery's. We are in the process of modifying the trigger tolerance on the new Ezi-ratchet blocks for improved performance - as with all boat hardware they do need a good rinse to keep all mechanics working well. Bit of a plug, but the Ezi-Ti's are now in stock at LDC. 20mm Ezi-Ti http://shop.ldcracingsailboats.co.uk/index.asp?selection=det ailed&uid=9833 30mm Ezi-Ti http://shop.ldcracingsailboats.co.uk/index.asp?selection=det ailed&uid=9834 40mm Ezi-Ti http://shop.ldcracingsailboats.co.uk/index.asp?selection=det ailed&uid=9835 I am very impressed with these blocks, I think a few of my Harken blocks on my 800 will be replaced! |

Is it not designed for a very specific purpose (kite halyard on a 49'er)?

If it provides a decent solution for the top kite halyard job it will be very welcome... The kite halyard on the Cherub used to shred Harken blocks in weeks. I got better life from Rionstan after going a size larger than I really wanted...

You are wrong - the Allen range is manufactured at our factories in Essex, UK and has been for more than 50 years - the range used to be distributed and marketed by Holt but since the beginning of this year is being marketed by us under the Allen brand and is no longer available from Holt. Design and quality is of paramount importance to us. The gold block was designed particularly with the 49er spinnaker hoist in mind, but not exclusively.
