I'm trying to work out from the pix if the sails are 100% identical to the Daemon...if not they are very close!

I don't think the sails are even close Iain. Although I did think the leech was dog legged at one point so what do I know!

As both boats fit the cherub rules (ok the GT60 needs a few mods to the bow to measure) and the both sails are designed by Mike Lennon at hyde sails to the new thinking in 14 rigs I guess they will be very similar!

Yeah but just look at the leeches - ones curved and the others dog legged ( sorry I mean straright ). But yes they are going to look like they came from the same loft cos they did, but just counting the panles in the jib shows there have some different things going on.

Theoretically the Cherubs could be racing each other in Hyeres right now at the Evaluation Trial. All the triallists are sailing round the same track, but I hear that the organisers have avoided running any races. So it's hard to draw comparisons at this stage. I guess the real proof will come at the Cherub open meetings and the Nationals in the UK this summer. One thing is for sure, these new Cherubs will put the class in a different league.

Cheers

Andy

Unless one of them turns up with a works crew of Olympic level sailors my money would still be on the Lees for the Nationals.

Yeah you're right Darryl, I was looking at another piccy from another angle where it was not quite as obvious.  Still very close though!

What is the point of a trials with no races - are they afraid of what they may find out.

Of course they need different tests to evaluate the boats but no races is jusy plain daft ...

Perhaps they have already selected the winner and don't wish to deal with the inconvenience of the chosen class not winning.

Here is some history on the last evaluation event that ISAF held.

I have a copy of the event report from a French magazine which has all the race results.

You could make a very good case to say that the relative rate at which a boat circulates a course is perhaps the least important thing to discover from the trials. So I'd certainly say that race *results* are irrelevant to the choice. I would think how the sailors find the boats handle in race conditions is important though.
