I usually go to the London boat show and the dinghy show but I way prefer the dinghy show (even though it's harder to get to).  But I'm most likely to go to the London Boat Show because I went there 3 weeks ago so by the laws of probability...!!

Southampton is fab and is our fave!
London boat show - Earls Court was great
London boat show - Excel  very dull this year....whats going wrong! never seemed 'at home'  in Excel it's so sad, and was the high light of my year....for many years past!

Dinghy show -great also

I love the mix of people, tastes, and boats at the southampton and London shows

but, lets face it, Mr Headfry and I are just bost show junkies!!!

I can't make the Dinghy Show - I'm sailing, but it is the best.  Southampton is quite good with plenty of dinghies.  Ecxel - boring and expensive to park.  Earls Court - why the hell are we going back there - but at least its easy to get to by train.

I dont think i ever went to the london Boat show at Earls Court but I have been to the Excel one for a few yrs now (but missed this one) I do like it but it is too much like an exhibition.

I love soton But I think you need more than one day as it is soo big and spread out - its way to easy to miss things. (and im sure it used to have more things on when i was a kid - its getting more corporate)

But my Fav has to be the Dinghy Show, Its does have such a good atmosphere etc and I have ended up working there a few years in a row. I may even be coming up after two days of work down here on the boats for the sunday avro then back again that eve for uni on the mon (not many things I would do that for)

I do think that there should maybe a similar show to the dinghy show up north beacuse there is a lot of sailing to be had up there. but im not sure how wel it owuld work out though.

Sorry Mark- Having a blonde moment here.....

Are they pulling out of Excel and moving back to Earls court? and why the date change?
It's nice to have something to look forward to after Christmas

The boat shows for us, are more about catching up with friends and people we have met over the years of going to the shows than buying  lots of goodies!

Excel seems to have lost that warm and fuzzy feeling...it seems just a people have said...an exhibition!

How many noted the following

The carpets represented sand??? better if they had looked like the boarding of a pontoon... at least it would have been easy to represent decking! the carpets were lost on me

The gulls over head...looked like bathroom curtains hung up... why not make huge mobiles....with articulated wings that would move in the air flow.

Where was the light house?????

and the crazy bird song as you walked in....sounded more like garden birds to me, not sea birds!

Sorry to sound off.....but, have they that organize lost their way a little.

We still love the shows and will always try to go, if only to say "hi" to some of the lovely people we have met there, Mark, Gale, Tom Cunnlife, Noel and Christine, and a whole host more.

Hi Headfry

Firstly, thank you for our boat show cookies again!

The BMF show is continuing to take place at ExCeL, but an independent company is starting a new show at Earls Court. See http://www.earlscourtboatshow.com/ for more information. As you might have seen in my other thread on the subject, this new show clashes with the Paris Boat Show which, in my opinion, will be the reason the new show does not succeed. But I'll be happy to be proved wrong!

I totally agree with the lack of a warm feeling in ExCeL. It is now just an exhibition. There were little corners where exhibitors had got together and created wonderful areas like the Classic Boats feature, but this was down to the exhibitors, not the venue.

Roll on the dinghy show - opinion seems pretty positive on this one!

Mark

Earl's Court - bit small, everyone hemmed in but had a friendly feel to it.

Excel - with everyone else on this - cold, clinical, very much an exhibition and little else.  Long way from anywhere.

Dinghy Show  -  I am a dinghy sailor (just restarted anyway!) and I always enjoyed going to A.P and seeing everyone, looking at shiny bits of kit and drinking lots of beer.  Will be going for the first time in 3 years and manning the Solution stand so do come and say hello.

Giles

Solution sail number 414
