Sounds to me like you need 4 boats, 1 single hander for inland, 1 single hander for the sea, 1 double hander for inland and 1 double hander for the sea, or accept some compromises.

Neither will be great single handed - definitely not quicker than a Finn unless its a drift ? In the Solent chop a Finn would be much better

Neither have lots of sail either

Why would a 200 be better single handing - its got 3 sails ?

At 95 Kg helming either with a crew will be slow and not rewarding.

Buying a two hander to sail on your own with the occasional crew never seems to work well

If you want a faster boat get a faster single hander ?. Contender, Phantom ?

Hi all,

I have recently sold my Finn in search of somehting a little faster, I am 17, 5ft 11 and about 95kg on a good day - I'm looking at choosing between an RS 300 and nat 12 as I find them to be reasonably similar in hull shape and premise (minimum wetted area - lots of sail) I would be hoping to end up with a crew at some point and obviously the nat 12 has this hands down but I'm not sure I would manage it on my own? (maybe single handed) - whereas the rs is going to be best for single handing and I might have to bite the bullet and get another boat if I end up with crew. any suggestions for other options would be welcome, obviously any comments and ideas/thoughts too. many thanks.

****EDIT**** sailing experience in laser, international canoe, finn, firefly and contender

Aye,
George T
