We gave up on the 2:1 halyard a while back, its actually quite easy at just 1:1 and eliminates the sheave issue.

But doesn't it still have to run over the sheave? Do does getting rig of the crane improve the angle?
It does seem a bit of overkill the 2:1, but I thought it was more to reduce stretch / how far back down the mast the main slips under downhaul, kicker and sheet tension?

still have the crane just run it over the sheave and down to the cleat, its then not pulled to one side due to the 2:1 attachment point on the crane. Its not once come off since the change. As for slippage we hoist pull all the controls on then release and take up the slip, and most it moves 1cm over the course of a day, it also looks like it hoists nearer to the top.

Struggling to picture it. If it's 1:1 isn't the dead end on the shackle and it just goes straight very the sheave and down to the block?
The 2:1 doesn't really pull from the side, it's more at the front it slips off, but I don't see why that would be different with 1:1?

We just use a bobble to attach to the main, but you could splice a shackle on i suppose, then straight up to and over the sheave and down to the turning block at mast base and into cleat. I haven't got an image of it but we replaced 2 in as many seasons so moved to this and no problems.

Funny you should mention the ridiculous list price of RS800 parts; Mast inc rigging £3,213, complete bowsprit £504, a pair of intermediate bars £590 (plus another £17.16 for 4 stainless pins if you want to use them) & corrector weights (3kg of lead) £70 each…………….

Its a carbon section and is actually fairly well priced compared to other carbon mast sections. For example a D-One top section retails at £684.
I know it is still significantly more than the old ali top section but comparing like for like (carbon with carbon) it seems pretty reasonable. |

Considering carbon tube of roughly that size costs about £90/m retail that doesn't sound much of a bargain. And doesn't a D-One top section have a track attached (and a taper?)?
