A bit of change can perpetuate a class or reinvigorate it.

There was a lot of grumbling in the Supernova fleet when it dropped a load of weight three years ago, but it caused a real growth in the class and its healthier than ever despite the aero/d-zero options appearing. The only shame is that they didn't move to a carbon rig at the same time.

Mikes done all the development work for three rigs on the same mast, but I am sure a drop in weight would be a good upgrade. i certainly wouldn't put a spinnaker on it as that would kill the class.

Not that many people want a spinnaker in a singlehander - end of. As seen in the vareo, 100 etc, they don't have great sales momentum after the initial rush. Even the d-one only sells in relatively small numbers despite being best of breed and frankly I couldn't see the blaze being anywhere near as good with a kite. Bizarrely, the d-one is very nice to sail without using the kite at all, whereas i couldn't say the same about a 100 in a breeze. I would be very interested to see a kite less d-one's PY calc - say 1000- 1010 - that would be a cracking class!

Announcement today on the cirrus website and on the blaze facebook page.

Will start taking bets now on a reduction in hull weight.

well congratulations Mike- he's secured a future for the class and above all, has ensured production remains in the hands of a committed UK builder.  So FWIW, good result and well done.

Mike has always had the best interests of the class at heart. Am sure this was the best offer on the table at the time.

Hartley seems a good choice, they are always out and about at shows, even though they fixed one bit of the Supernova but not the rig bit, they won't have that problem with the Blaze, it's rig is fine so if they improve the hull weight it can be only good news, might even get it going in light weather, not that I had any problems but some folk seem to think it's an issue.

All in all sounds like good news, I like the Blaze, it's another good boat underated even if it is a bit of a Bandit.

I wonder if they'll press ahead with the Fire edition, now that with a kite could be interesting.
