Another blown trailer tyre

Recently after being fed up with replacing bulbs in my lighting board, I splashed out on a one with LED lights - no problems so far - touch wood!

I guess all tyres whatever their size are not created equal. FWIW I wouldn't buy such a safety critical item over the internet on price from an unknown to me manufacturer. I have always bought tyres from and had them fitted by a local independent firm, the experience of people who have been in the trade for many years is well worth a few extra quid. BTW. I now have trailer wheels dynamically balanced, the difference is rather enlightening.

I have LED light fittings on an old lighting board. The new ones just look cheap and nasty.

The LED are so much better and brighter than the light bulb ones, especially when training doubles at night that cover your car lights, these can be seen from a distance.

Cheap LED lights aren't necessarily any better than normal lamps, and if you're buying anything off "The Internet", make sure it is approved for UK use as this is the kind of thing the police will pull you up for if it's obviously wrong.

Clive, my experience was that the basic 8" tyres often only lasted 2500 miles, and that most second hand trailers had dangerous and illegal tyres either due to age or wear (by age I mean they had cracked). I learned to always have a spare wheel, jack and torque wrench with me when I picked up boats. The caravan club recommend that you change tyres on your caravan/motorhome every 5 years: when I bought my motorhome the back tyres were 10 years old and had cracked sidewalls. If you go and see Jubby at Sailboat Trailers, I'm sure the guys can change you to 10" wheels and also supply a decent LED lightboard! It isn't that far from Frensham. I should say this is connected to where I'm now working so I do have an interest but I don't get anything for saying this and I genuinely think they can sort you a better set up. I did see trailers in my time at RS where the geometry was wrong and that massively affects tyre wear so have a look at the tyres and if they are not wearing evenly that needs sorting, it was very possible with the bolt-together trailers to build them out of square.
