This is a one-off so may not be universal... At Sailfest last year Richard Woof (builder of many of the 300s until recently) had his build-bible with him and told us the weights of all our hulls, weighed when they came out the moulds. Mine was 53.9kg and the other 300s were all within 0.5kg. (The advertised hull weight is 58kg, which I imagine includes rope & fittings (not much in a 300)).

Hi bootscooter. No didn't catch the black OK this time, but am an admirer of Scoles's OKs, eg see pic 254 on the 2013 Fotoboat album, nice wood or wood look foredeck. Think he had a nice one the previous year too, adjustable mast foot position.

I am not sure to be honest. RS and Vantage Sailing might be able to help you out here.

I do know that in my experience they don't feel all that different in 'weight'. But my main point is that, for the sort of boat that both of these classes are, the weight is not really the important thing in the way that perhaps it might be if you are just looking for maximum performance at all costs.

are those Buzz and Rs500 quoted weights on the same basis? Are they all-up (including sails), hull-with-fittings, other?

Graeme?

similar viewpoint on this occasion, but not the same poster !

[QUOTE=Stu.B] It's good to see lots of Buzz talk.

... This [weight of the Buzz] is very similar to the RS500 minimum weight and in reality they probably weigh the same.

This is a good point:

Buzz 90kg versus  RS500 87kg

ie less than half a stone. In any case this is all rather academic because, as many people have told me and I tend to agree with them, a boat's performance is generally far more dependent upon stiffness than weight. This is borne out (when looking at the Buzz at least) by the fact that slightly heavier ones have done very well in competition over the years.

Whilst talking about RS500 as an alternative to Buzz, I do think do think that this is another really great boat for those of us who want exciting fast sailing without going to the absolute extreme. There are, however, are a few areas where, to me, Buzz comes out on top including:

o   No traveller over the back of the boat to get tangled up in during and after a capsize and the semi floating mast makes turning turtle quickly less likely - These are safety factors that are all really important to me, given that my whole family sail and race our Buzz.

o   A lot simpler, clearer and more open deck making it look nicer as well as making it easier to move about and, because of the furling jib (and this is of particular importance to my wife), to sunbathe between races.

o   Second hand prices Buzzes are currently very much more attractive to the buyer, although I can see the full support and availability of spares from Vantage Sailing changing that situation before long.

Loving the curved foils on the A-class, sucker for the 14's and 505s, just need a lot more water and cash.....

Edit: Moth looks great too, worthy CdE winner
