no multihulls allowed here!
I can't help but think that an adult sized genuine 'beach' boat ie rugged, easy to rig etc would do well both in training and holiday centres. |

One of our club members has a Hartley 12 and apart from adjustments needed to the full length top batten it goes ok and he is no lightweight. Has choice of versions - either two mast positions or the assy kite.
I reckon it would make quite a good training boat. Edited by patj - 12 Oct 13 at 8:47pm |

Is the Hartley 12 the one that looks like it has a piece of kitchen worksurface for a thwart?

that is a good call Pat. I saw some of these last year whilst collecting new kestrel masts. Might fit the bill quite nicely.

still seems to me that the H12 has the exact same issues as the Q'ba- the larger (than a pico) sail being battened, not roll up?

Sounds to me that what's required is a RotoSolo with a non-fully battened sail.

There was some new boat turned up down the lake wednesday last, I think it was something from the Topper Tupperware range, it looked the part, but as usual with Tupperware, the performance didn't stack up. I wish i could remember what it was called.
Vibe, it might be that one. Edited by iGRF - 12 Oct 13 at 10:42pm |

The general problem I think is that thermoplastic construction doesn't deem to scale well, and boats much bigger than Feva/Pico are too heavy wnd too flexible. Need a new tech advance.

Continuous reinforced thermoplastic. Glass cloth with polypropylene co-mingled, so it is like a prepreg. Heat it up to melt the pp and cool to set. Light, strong, impact resistant and recyclable.

Peaky: problem there is that you're back to the labour intensive world of hand lay up. Plenty of thermoplastic based pre-pregs available, with all sorts of fibre reinforcement (even themoplastic reinforcements). But you lose, for manufacturers, one of the key process advantages of rotomolding.
