England isn't a country, so can it have a National championship? Neither is Wales, but arguably Scotland is.

English regions? Do they really excist? What do they actually do? There is a significant difference in funding to RYA Scotland and Wales compared to English regions.

There was a time when that kind of talk got some of England's neighbours conquered... then they weren't neighbours no more.... shame they've gone, few heads stuck up on poles on the ramparts of Edinburgh castle would probably save millions..... Ouch

Should we go back to Wessex, Northumbria, Mercia, East Anglia, Cornwall? Lets undo all Alfred's efforts...

Or am I missing the reason England isn't a country?

I think you'll find those are called the Zone Champs.

England is not a country recognised by the UN, it is not recognised by the EU, it does not have sovereign power to pass its own laws, it does not have embassies in other countries and there are no ambassadors to England. My passport doesn't call me English.

Atrhletics does divide into 'home countries' for Chamionships etc and there is also the Commonwealth Games next year.   Sailing isn't a CG sport.  Good thing or bad?

Neither was Palestine for years, but I reckon most people called it a country.

And anyway as I've already told you that the GB is really called England, or it was when we took over all of our neighbours on this isle, and it was England when we invaded France in the middle ages. We only started calling it the United Kingdom to make those neighbours feel a little less aggrieved that they were part of England. Therefore in reality this isle is still England whatever the outlying areas think.

I agree with Rupert though, lets go back to the good old days when it were the different kingdoms, I quite like being in Wessex, sounds nicer. In fact I might start calling my county Sumersaete again now we have our own flag at last
Everything I say is my opinion, honest

Some more realistic terminology like that would be good.

It's also a bit silly that some classes (including one I sail and love) can have a "world championship" that has entries from 4 countries, whereas other classes have 25 or more countries at their worlds. Surely the classes with only a few countries represented should have an "international class championships" rather than a "world championships."
