Made history, yes. The first singlehanded asymmetric dinghy. A template now routinely copied.
The rig was not the best and needed more development. But used camber inducers way before most of the current Moth fleet were born. And was in essence the same sort of auto rig that the 29er used. Having owned one, unlike, I can imagine pretty much all of you. I can say it is one of the most fun boats I have ever owned. Off wind it was spectacular, upwind it struggled. But given it was a SMOD, in reality, given a good take up of boats ( that never happened ) that fact would, sort of, become irrelevant. The hull shape is in fact a work of genius ( again something seen in the 29er ). Being that it combines a very slender waterline without the penalty of losing stability. Unfortunately it suffered form American marketing hype and the afore mentioned poor upwind speed made it very uncompetitive in handicap fleets. Plus it was a lightweights boat.

I'm looking forward to seeing and maybe test sailing Vlad's MX Next, with the hope that the amount of development in the hull is matched by the development in the rig this time.

It would still be relevant as you tried to beat against the tide or chop.
However, it looks fun, dares to be different, it's more interesting that most singlehanders.
Probably intended for younger, lighter people than me though.

it was a poor imitator then... we tested the 302 at our club around the time we were mincing around in 420s, they were awful little boats, windsurfer influenced toestraps, crappy little kite, foils that snapped when you capsized.

I remember the guy saying they were like 'Mx Rays' but for kids, jumping on the kite-bandwaggon no doubt... a poor comparison.

Oh please do. There was so much comedy in the v turd / coal barge / aircraft carrier / stable inverted monster.

We need a laugh as the laser thread is terminally boring.

I think we should all stick twenty quid in a pot in support of V3. In the years that I have been monitoring this forum and observing the views of others the only person to stick his toe in the water of true development is young Fuller. Until someone else puts their money where their mouth is I think we should shove money in GRF's mouth. Just think of the advantages, those who wish to laugh and ridicule can enjoy their perverted fun. Those who may be interested and equally misguided will have something to interest them and those who care about the finer points of rules and organization, but fizz all about fun can fizz off.

Out of interest we have an RS 100 at our inland puddle!

got to say it looks great, very stylish and will fly offwind

As others have said though the only way it will work is if they install a ski style drag lift at garda to tow you back upwind before the next ride down!
