I don't think any RS boats bar the 600 have fully battened mains. When you sail a boat that does, like the 600 or a 14 you know about it! Even handelling them launching can be tricky.

Umm rs vareo has a fully batterned main at 8.88 sq meters

Retired now after 35 seasons in a row and time for a rest.

This image is very telling to me :-

Great boat trim
It looks like your kicker blocks are all most touching ie max kicker. In that wind ... does this mean you have enough range to be able to pull more kicker on when the wind really pipes up? What happens if you sheet hard so your block to block like a laser ... can you get it that low?

I would suspect you might need an extra loop in the strops for when its uber windy so you can get even more kicker on?

This is all laymens stuff here I could be well off the mark as it looks like the selden mast is a lot stiffer than a 300 mast and with the extra battern up top could make a huge difference.

what other controls does a 100 have on the rig apart from kicker,
cunningham and outhaul?
i see it has shrouds, can you initiate pre-bend with them or are they
primarily there to stop mast inversion offwind? can you tenstion the rig?

Agree with all the windy advice from you guys, I never touch the outhaul unless it is going nuclear, i generally need all the grunt i can get. This guy nearly had enough kicker on...

By the way - do your burgees actually do anything when they are pointing at the sky? Do you use it much?

Think we are highjacking this thread a bit but hopefully only (mainly) to help the 100 boys out a bit. Be interesting to hear feedback as to whether the 300 techniques do actually work in the 100 also. The mainsail sizes are pretty similar (100 = 10.2 sq m, 300 = 10sq m).

Don't know if the mast tip was behind the transom but my body weight was certainly heading that way! Re: the burgee, I only use it downwind (running) but I use it a lot then as I really want to know whether I'm sailing by the lee or not (not an issue in the 100...).

(Great pics Chris, by the way).

Asterix, it depends on the conditions and where i'm sailing as to letting the kicker off before tacking.  But usually no!

I think i am going to have to have a go in Jimbos boat at the Federation regatta, to see the similarities between the 1 & 3 upwind.
