The heart and soul of the Forum Open meeting is the fun of doing what we do, with the result just being there to record that we were there together.

Not everyone has to get peeved to have a laugh and you couldn't find a less elitist environment if you searched the entire sailing world, they camp in actual Tents ffs, some have pikey vans, some turf up with back packs presumably having hitched there and blagged a ride, me I'm the classiest act there, which kind of says it all.

Yep classy, drunken in a gents changing room after dark, thrown over a fence, driven whilst under the influence, stayed at Cynthia's house of pain, stumbled back n the morning with the head from hell, moaned about anything but still had a laugh. I guess that summed up the fom in a way that nothing else could ever do, or want to. You, iGRF are the living epitome of the Forumites Open Meeting folks, and thanks to you made the event the best one that I attended in 2012, so I salute you in a slightly strange way.

Look at the time of Maxi's post - clearly written after a significant helping of Christmas cheer! Beer

Dougal, I don't drink, never ever, honest. Shocked

I do however think that iGRFs antics at the fom did sum up the spirit of the event though
Everything I say is my opinion, honest

Just a thought but if Broxbourne becomes the 'spiritual home' of this event, why not have FOM qualifying events round the country to get to 'the Big One'? Why have 'Sailjuice' when you could have 'Sailale'? Tongue

Wouldn't that make it only open to the very best which kind of defeats the object of the fom? I do like the title though, sailale...

More a reference to the size of the pond at Broxbourne than any attempt to make it eliteist. There may well be a number of Forumites from 'parts north/west/etc' who would be happy to take part in a regional event with no desire to travel to the 'Holy of Holies'. Just a thought.

I see what you mean Alistair but by doing that it will probably mean that it would end up as the cream of the crop rather than any Tom, Dick or Harriet turning up.

Very true but the event has the potential to be a victim of its own success, if the first year was anything to go by.

Just a few comments on what has gone before:-
  • Just the one FOM event takes quite a lot of organising, effort and (dare I say) money.
  • We had 24 entries this year and if we had regional events the numbers per event, IMO, would be diluted.
  • The idea is to try to bring forum members together not seperate them by geography.  I don't think that any of the people who attended this year's FOM begrudged the mileage or travel time.

Rodney, I agree with your sentiments and as someone who'd like to do the 2013 FOM I'd say continue to keep it simple and focused on 'avin a larf. For me tho' I 'd like to see it slightly more central, as where it was almost made it a four day event (and put us off) and some from the northern outposts, not even from north of the wall must feel the same. Would be a shame not to inject more northern humour and generosity into what sounded like a great event. Sailing and racing should primarily be fun...... So no qualifiers ...... Just a certificate of alcoholic consumtion/ capacity to be shown at signing on

I guess anyone can invite their local forumites to play any time they wish if they can get a venue organized. The difference is that Rodney actually got away from his keyboard and did it.

Dear All,

If required I'm sure we could organise an event at Bough Beech SC. Camping on the grounds aswell if required. Would be happy to organise.

Let me know. Also quite a lot bigger than the last venue.

Best,
Alex
