Dont think anyone asked Mike to stop posting.  Just perhaps to consider that if the forum is going to be used to help sell a boat and by the very nature of the retailer posting nothing specific about the class other than to keep it top of the forum pops, then perhaps it probably right that that retailer utilises the proper channels also that help fund this site and keep it online.  Like i said earlier Mikes posts are in the most informative, and interesting in terms of development.  Classes posting about open days etc. i personally also find acceptable, but a retailer pimping and not paying is in my opinion over the line.  Hence the expression 'Buy and Ad'  help fund this space, so at least the very last place we can all dial in to read about sailing that isn't run by a bunch of knuckle dragging commercially biased Americans is actually still able to keep trading.

Less of course you would be happy for RS, P&B, Suntouched, Zhik etc. to all also stop spending and utilise a forum (whilst it existed) to sell their brands?

Just a thought, I would rather have this site than not one at all and lets face it folks without advertises this place just wouldn't exists! So in my opinion buy and Ad, post away, just dont expect to utilise the forum as a commercial space if you are not even willing to part fund it!!!

If you want to see blatant commercial posting then looking at a certain choccy bar related thread on another sailing forum is the place to go with 50% of the most recent posts coming from those with a commercial interest in the class.....
I dont know that that's fair Paul,  RS have not really used the forum for a commercial perspective, more to set the record straight.  But even if they did you could hardly argue given the amount of banner space they fund!!!  That said, you live by the forum you die by the forum in terms of marketing perspective.

Well AFAIK he's committing forum driven seppuku with this Halo Fire thing, trying to bring things a bit back on topic.

Having a specific name suggests there's an actual craft called that name, but the reality of the current situation appears to be one hull with three different model names depending which rig you put on it, which wasn't at least with the Fire, supposed to be the eventual outcome I didn't think, so whatever he's doing he's confusing his market, which is me amongst others.. I don't mind him being here posting stuff, and anyway it also opens him up to challenges like this next one I'm going to make about him robbing me of a place in the round island race by what can now effectively be called cheating since there is no such class as Fire now so therefore according to your rules his entry is null and void isn't it?
Then I don't think he did himself any favours with the Halo episode last winter, so as the man said, live by the forum get flamed by it.. Both bad moves did no good whatsoever to the image and by the look of it even got as far as firing up the PYAGbuffers to ignore their data long enough to punish his crafts and therefore his customer base as well, b**tards that they also are.

Imagine a windsurfing board that changed it's name depending what rig it has? Silly stupid.

Either make three different boats, with the gear tuned and weighted to the rig or don't show, what's the Zero going to call itself with the small sail 'Blue?'

I never said it was RS themselves...but their dealers and distributors are very prominent (as is their class chair who let us not forget is a paid employee I believe).

I cannot help but think that RS may have a hand in their active posting somewhere along the lines (just my personal opinion).

It would be nice if Mike spent a few quid for a banner occasionally though.

I think Paul is referring to SA... which RS sponsor and a few of their dealers are happy to share information on- if a little bit like broken records and hyped up.

Whatever, SA's been dead for years though.... I couldn't have processed enough of a sh*t to give for it before my diet, I certainly wasn't about to put my hand in my pocket to boost their war chest taking on the fella they called Jabba.    I guess I'm more sentimental about this place, sadt**t that I am (and btw, so are you if you are still reading this and not on twitter or instagram with your coffee).

And FWIW, whilst I think it would be an 'appropriate gesture' for Cirrus to pay for advertising given the exposure they get from this forum, I don't really think it's mandatory.  Nor were there criticisms around the posting of content which is clearly development related - but bumping threads to promote half arsed 'demo days' and then suggesting the class would wheel-in an unpaid volunteer to market to us when the proverbial toys went out pram... a step over the line, and perhaps a little naive anyway.

As you say, live by the forum, die by it.  I doubt it will have any positive sales impact anyway- certainly hasn't for the Icon as far as I can tell.  A total dead duck - despite on paper ticking several boxes.

This is an old school medium now anyway, very 'web 1.0'.  So some of us with memories of forums being free places, 'bastions of the free internet' I've heard them called, or certainly where commercial interest was tempered and called out routinely, are probably just a little out of touch.

So fire away (no pun intended), and why don't some of you rallying in support for the free pimping get your arses into one of these boats and report back- first hand experience...  No one would complain about that, quite the contrary.  But try and do it with a bit of integrity... after all, this forum used to be the place where the rose-tinted glasses weren't required and we could call a spade a spade.

You can book onto a demo day, and pick up a voucher for a cheap Volvo too.

No such frills with a Blaze though, just a list of jobs to get your Mk1 competitive, or a generous handicap if you play the system with some rig switches.

Not seen it out yet though.

There is an Aero at Grafham too, tis privately owned but looked distinctly like it had not moved since delivery...

Might have to see if I can take a trip to Draycote if that is a Demo boat...
