Tee hee! Oh no, you didn't actually believe the Laser hype about a 'Vortex' through the tunnel hull did you?  I thought that was definately one for the 'punters' not anyone with any knowledge of fast boats. If you thought about that reasoning for a moment, the same would also apply to a Cat - as a similar 'vortex' would be set up by the tunnel between the two hulls and the trampoline - but of course it doesn't does it? In any case, any 'vortex' would dissapate as soon as one side of the tunnel left the water.i.e. the boat heels.

To be fair, I suppose that theoretically there must be some lift. It might be an interesting experiment to see how fast you'd have to be going to get enough lift to flip a 75kg Vortex and a 75kg helm - I reckon about 100mph should do it! Any aeronautical engineers on here?

Yes you're right - amongst several other boats I sail a Vortex - including on Saturday in gusts of up to 33kts   with no random flips. It just doesn't happen - so thanks for taking my word for it.

im not an enginneers, but as a cat has a tramp surely there is less pressure as in the vortex no wind can escape through the tramp as there isnt one.

I hope that makes sense. Well it sounded right in my head
