Netball at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. Or Basketball.
I think the B14e (I assume you are referring to the single wire version) was somewhat ahead of it's time in the UK market, and the trapeze version an unnecessary conversion. It has now found it's way back into it's wide winged ankle dangling niche and I think people have a much better understanding of what it's about.
I suspect the main problem most of the 'early' UK asymmetric classes is that they occupy a strange middle ground between the symmetric trapeze boats that preceded them and the proper apparent wind boats that have since emerged. That and they are probably a bit too heavy. But opinions are opinions...

The main problem is they were designed by the wrong people using the wrong models... If, for instance, the NZ Javelin or 14 ft skiffs had been used as models they wouldn't have been 10 years obsolete the day they were introduced.

That's a good one! Not as fast! Don't belive the PYs. From my experience, even with the Sobstad sails, they're very, very close in speed. I can remember doing one joint Iso/4000 event, with the 4000s starting 5 minutes before us. Our leading boats would have the tail end charlies by the first mark, and the fleets would be throughly mixed by the end. I think any difference in speed between Isos and 4000s is primarily down to who's sailing them.

probably as heavy

That they are.

From what i have seen ther s not much in it between the 4k and the iso either.  The iso is an underated boat.

I still like the sound of the B14E. More rag and lighter than a 4000. Especially with the way the B14 class has evolved with the carbon rigs. Having sailed a rather nice carbon rigged boat at the weekend the lower weight aloft is really noticeable. Having sailed a 4000 on and off myself I can say that the rig feels heavy and I think if the class is to move forward and keep up with the times they need to develop the boat. The 3000 class seem to have managed it with the vandercraft boat, all be it in a different way so why has the 4k class not done the same?

I ma convinced the ISO and L4k would both have had a better future if they had combined forces, rather than fight against each other - united we stand and all that...  Maybe its not too late?

You've got to wonder whether there's really much point though... The 3000 is basically a stretched 1972 vintage Cherub hull, the 4 tonner basically pre amalagamation 14... Actually fairly similar in terms of design generation. The state of the art has moved on so very far that surely it would be better to start again...
