Oh!  I chipped a bone in my elbow last year helping with boat recovery at QM!  It's now my excuse for poor performances along with old age, carpel tunnel problems, knackered knees, poor eyesight (can't see the marks), a long term shoulder injury and, most importantly, lacking the support of a sports phyciatrist and a phycologyst which I am in constant need of to help with my delicate mental state.  Also, of course, a clapped out old Finn! Can I please add 100 to my boat's PY?

Oh dear oh dear, have you checked lately?

Apparently I'm dead. If I can get there can this be taken into account the available prize bands?
Like some other things - sailing is more enjoyable when you do it with someone else

.... or why not simply load the whole event into the Draycote Dashset-up BUT with the requirement that all designated hard-core forumites wear  (to be designed by Rodney) an in your face forumite 'T' shirt or rashie?

There would not be much to organise in terms of location and racing and it is a good location if we dd it that way ... the 'sponsors' that might be lurking out there could possibly offer a few special prizes in addition the the 'official' event ones that come with the Dash maybe

...  oh and of course there would be a compulsory 'Forumite Curry' in the local emporium on Saturday night so that we can learn to all 'get along' together even better ... or er ....  possibly not  ;-)

Draycote sounds good, not a bad journey from up north.

it's only got a provisional date at the moment though.... maybe better setting sights on a guaranteed event if you fancy piggybacking?

Personally I like the fact that Rodney is doing something new & different, and without jumping the gun, it sounds like a lot of pre-prep work is/has been done already, so a few more days patience would probably be a good call right now.

I agree James, i dont like the idea of piggy backing it on to the Draycote dash to be honest.  Just a little more patience folks i am sure Rodders will be back shortly with some exciting news.  But from what i have heard so far it sounds like its going to be a great event for fellow Forumites to meet each other and have a light hearted couple of days racing.  I even hear that we are going to have a dwarf throwing competition kindly sponsored by GRF.  He is even providing the apparatus.

Apologies to all for the delay in finalising the venue but as always the committee is slowing the process down.  I am hopeful of having confirmation soon.  If the preference is to be absorbed into the Draycote Dash I am sorry but I am expecting to be somewhere hotter thanks to G.R.F.'s link so will be unable to attend that!!!

Now we have a venue  http://www.broxbournesailingclub.co.uk/

For directions go here  http://www.broxbournesailingclub.co.uk/location/

I am pleased to report that Broxbourne Sailing Club have pulled out all of the stops to provide us with a great weekend's sailing.   I am very grateful for all of the thought that the sailing club has given to hosting this event even to the point that they have cancelled all club racing for the Saturday afternoon and Sunday. The event will be 13th/14th October and an NOR and entry form will be available soon.

I realise that it's a fair distance for many of you but it's looking more and more like I will be travelling from France on the morning of 13th October so please try to make the journey.

  • Maximum 40 boats.
  • Format - 3-4, b2b races each day.  Courses to be discussed and agreed with host club.
  • Times - 13.00 first signal on 13th October with view to ending last race by around 17.00 and 10.00 first signal on 14th October 2012 with view to ending last race by 14.00.
  • Social - Dinner/Bar on Saturday evening and prize giving after racing on Sunday.
  • Bacon Butties will also be available  Smile
As you will see there is plenty of local accommodation to suit all tastes and on site camping as well as a campsite just half a mile away.

I hope that everyone who has put their names down will support this first, hopefully of many,

YachtsandYachting.com Forumites Open Meeting!  If you haven't yet put your names down please do so now so as not to be disappointed.  Maximum entries is 40.  As the club is going to so much effort to support our event it's important that we have an early indication of numbers and, of course, I am hoping that we will manage to get up to the 40 maximum.
