IMHO, it depends very much on whether there are lulls big enough to tack in, and there normally are. The IC can handle conditions that sends Moth worlds runners-up back to shore as fast as they can go. The Canoe seems to have the ability to sail with both sheets eased well out and still stay under really nice control, also you have lots of hiking power and they can heel to leeward miles and stay in control. The only real problems are tacking in a gust, and the fact that getting back under control after crashing downwind is interesting. I suppose it depends on what you come from, but the IC seems much easier than legend has it - IF you get stuck right into training as soon as you get one. It's not that much harder than driving a Radial flat-out in the same conditions. |

Yeah annoying when it gusts powerfully so you ease the sheets and then you end up hiked so ar outt when a lull comes that you get wet !

Well that's the trouble with windy weather - its gusty. This is why sailing on Lake Garda is so good. Can you imagine sailing in a steady 29knots. I've done it with a Laser4000 and although I can't claim it's easy, I can say that once you're used to it, it ain't too bad at all and its very exciting. I recall the crashing of the boat going upwind (4000s plane upwind in those conditions) and wondering how the hull can take it and then we came off one wave and missed the next and hit the next really hard - I was amazed the rig didn't come down (imagine the strain on the trapeze wire). We had a few capsizes that day but the downwind legs were worth it - we must have covered a kilometre in a couple of minutes.
