If it proves to be more stable due to the wings, it could give sailors more confidence in windy conditions, when Lasers etc are easing mains, they will sail above their PY, should suit griff

At an open water venue wings are brilliant but, on a gusty inland lake they can be more of a hinderance than a help. I sail the Blaze on both types of water and definitely don't find the big rig and wide racks an advantage inland, if I was 30 years younger and significantly more athletic it might be different though

This was my thought too. It’s fine if your selling to the US market as they sail on big bits of water , not sure if you sail on a gravel pit in the uk it’s going to be your weapon of choice.

What I found with the sprint after I fitted the wings, was it was more relaxing, well, compared to a plank, I suppose virtually anything would be
was certainly more relaxed than a Laser in similar winds, I once capsized 25 times one Saturday morning, trying to master the roll tack, probably would have been easier if it wasn't force 4

There are 7 and 8 sqm versions. There was something stated about an all up weight, but I've forgotten and the website is dire. For something that's supposedly available to order, there is a bit of a deficiency of prototypes and demo boats, press reviews and what-have you. When it comes tothe relative PY of the P'star and the 300, the determining factor might be which one stays upright more in breeze and waves? Which I think might be a matter of the subtleties of hull design. Have we learned anything in the past 25 years? The 300 is an iconic design, but it is 'of the last century' IMHO. Even yachts are more chine hulls these days. As I said it depends what the design aims were and how good the designer(s) are. Were they aiming to give a range of sailors a fast boat, or were they looking for the closest racing? Closer racing might be enhanced by sticking 100kg of lead on the end of the keel. My guess is that it (in 8sqm guise) will either be faster than a Dzero or it will be generally not very nice to sail, because it needs a dozen more prototypes and some design evolution. Either I doubt LP care very mcuh about racing other designs, I still suspect they will have some scheme to hit the ground running (not literally, that's bad for the plate case) and create OD racing in sizeable, high talent fleets with none of that 'organic growth from amateur club sailors malarkey' that only a few classes like the H2 can manage.

Tbh I am not sure LP have a plan.
As they seem to have demonstrated conclusively over the last decade that they have no idea about how the dinghy market works in Europe or USA.

Nobody can deny Resty can get money out of the EU and out of his suppliers ( by not paying them 😕) Which is why no boat dealers in the USA want to deal with LP now they can get boats and parts from the new ILCA manufacturers.
Also if you want to know how good the quality control is in this nice new shiny factory. Ask the Guys at the Sunfish worlds who used factory supplied boats ![]() Look I hope it’s a quality product that’s well built and marketed well . But LP recent history does not fill me with confidence, but time will tell……

I despise the trend to cancel culture, but I’d happily make an exception when it comes to Rastagar and LP. Hopefully the Pornstar, that seems to me to be an answer looking for a question, is an unmitigated flop such that even one of Dougal’s excellent histories one day deems it not even worthy of a footnote. And hence, our speculations here about it remain only theoretical

If it flops so badly I can get one next year for the price of an old Topper, that would be great. I wouldn't mind a go in one, that's all. I can't see me ever buying one, I'm kind of sated with the 'one man, one sail' thing, unlikely to be inspired to spend the price of a half-tidy car in the next few years, and then I'll be too old. More likely to buy a share in 505 or something!
