Narrower hull, portability designed in from the start, think it has a wheel built in. Its narrower and lighter too- seem to remember 25kg hull

I no longer have an Italian sheep, and the only flowery board ever owned came from your warehouse!

I guess 100% carbonmasts are, even with posh prepreg, only up to 65% carbon as the rest is resin.
we make life tricky. In pre-preg product descriptions we will quote a fibre area weight (ie grams per square metre) and a resin content that is a % of the total areal weight.

When it comes to cured laminates however, the measure we use and quote is Fibre Volume Fraction. So 55% carbon would mean that 55% of the total volume is fibre. Note that this is more than 55% of the weight, as carbon fibre is around 1.8g/cm^3 whilst resin is less dense at about 1.2-1.4g/cm^3 (depending on compostion, and if you've got lots of air in it it'll be rather less!)

We measure this on glass products by burning the resin away. On carbon, that would destroy the fibres, so we carefully remove the resin using boiling concentrated nitric acid. In a microwave

However, I'd guess that if it's a mixed-fibre product that's being talked about, then a 10% carbon would mean that 10% of the total dry fibre weight is carbon.

I realise that tech talk is tragic at this time on a Friday, but I do need to be up early, so I'm not out at the pub...

We gave up with nitric acid digestion ( I like the microwave idea though), years ago -the numbers were often rubbish and who wants to boil up nitric acid /peroxide mixes? We use microscopy and image analysis for getting Resin, fibre and void contents. You get more sensible numbers and you can get a much better idea of the laminate quality from the section micrographs.

I am reliably informed that any pictures that may have been submitted to the Guardian are very out of date anyway.... the ones I have seen are without the sail on it, which to me are pretty useless, as an RS Hull is pretty much an RS Hull.... blend the 700 with  the Vareo, thinking 21st Century Laser and you'd arrive at a similar concept drawing.
