Thanks for the feedback guys (helm weights) I'm working on converting my mate from an old an uncompetetive 400. Is there a still wait list for 100's , and is anyone thinking of selling?

I ordered my 100 at the dinghy show and got it a couple of weeks later. May still be the case but only one way to find out, get that order in!

So how do you find the 100 compared to the contender?  More interesting downwind I'm sure, but as an all round boat?

I love it, much more of a challenge and I think more physical. Last Sunday we had 2 races back to back but as I was one of the first to finish I had time to go ashore. I was overheating so had to take a layer off and get a drink.

I have to learn to hike after years of trapezing and I find the 100 very comfortable.

Downwind is much more tactical. I used to point the boat at the next mark and go with perhaps an allowance for the tide. Now you have a choice.

I think the 100 is a fantastic boat. The Contender is still a good boat (I have to say that as I am still trying to sell mine).

Hi Keith, logged onto your race results, no disgrace getting pipped by Iain Renilson but do I take it Dalgetty Bay races are just over a quarter of an hour long? Good to see you doing over the RS200s, down here at Largs I have a well sailed 200 and struggling to stay with him upwind. I`m sure its still my point on the learning curve but how are you fairing uphill against the 200s?

Hi Slimb,
In much more wind I also find it very difficult against the 200's upwind and what I find happens is they can go a little faster upwind then its all about how much I can get away downwind. If I get a good enough blast I'm fine.
I guess the 200 you are up against is Robbie and he is very fast so you will have a challenge on your hands there.
The 200's at Dalgety are very good aswell and they have excellent racing amongst themselves but they are a good gauge for me to tell how I'm doing. We are also getting a couple of 400's back now so I will be pitched inbetween them on PY so it should be interesting.
I just need to try and get more competitive upwind when the wind is up. I'm upgrading my downhaul purchase to be able to crank on more there to see if it helps.
We must try and meet sometime as I'm not sure if there are any other 100's in Scotland just now???
Cheers,
Keith.

Thanks Haroosh, that helps the confidence and you`re right about having the downwind pace. Its being close enough in touch at the top mark to take enough advantage on the run. I`ve upgraded the cunningham this winter by adding in another purchase and leading it between the jaws on the boom. Much easier to adjust so you play it more, I do bottom out on it now but so much easier to wind it all on and a big improvement. Transforms the 8.4 main in a breeze and gets the head falling off nicely in the gusts. It would help the boats performance if RS moved the cunningham cringle in the main up a couple of inches though to give more travel in the purchase.

Just after some opinions..

I've currently got 3 mains for my 100, 2 big (1 still in it's wrapper) and 1 baby rig that I think has only been up the mast and never sailed (i.e. still brand new). I'm never going to use the small rig so what shall i do with it?  I'd be quite happy to swap it for a new big rig but if I ever come to sell the boat (not likely for the next few years) would I be missing a trick not having the baby sail?
What would you do?

Thanks
Alex

When you say baby do you mean 8.4 Or 7.0?
Might be worth hanging on to as it does make it even more attractive if you ever sell.....
On he subjct of the 8.4 I rigged up the improved downhaul and sailed yesterday in around 20 knOts with it and found it much better although I quickly ran out of scope to pull down anymore. I also found the block on the control lines caught easily on the mouth of the bOom when trying to release at the windward mark.
I have to agree with a previous post that the 8.4 sail would benefit from a modification to move the Cunningham eye higher uP the luff of the sail to allow more scope on the downhaul pull.
Cheers,
Keith

8.4 Wink
That's the point lingering in my mind but then i've just got a sail doing nothing over the lifetime I own the boat Wacko

There's two of us on the big rig tried to up-grade the cunno but it just get bottoming out (block on the deck) so we've given up.  But we've thought we should be strong enough to pull it on as it is Tongue If not we shouldn't be sailing
