Can't agree with iGRF's comments on RYA. As a race official and event organiser (not  even based in UK) I have found RYA staff helpful, well-informed and very competent. The RYA Race Officials Conference, for instance, now attracts participants from all over Europe.

So, despite living in Ireland, I am a personal memeber of the RYA.

There is no need for a historic club structure - the water is there to be used, it’s undoubtedly the finest inland venue in the South East

No but there is need to know that there is liability insurnace in place and that safety/patrol boat drivers are suitably trained/qualified.

I would also say that there are members of other clubs in the south east who would dispute your ascertain about finest inland venue in the south east.

I am also asuming, perhaps wrongly, that you are in some way involved with the new setup at Bewl Valley so you have an interest in getting people through the door.

With you on that Simon and RYA or no RYA I'm sure independant commercial insurance could be sought by the landlord, aside which what's to stop the landlord seeking RYA recognition for his operation?

I don't feel the RYA does much to help small struggling clubs like mine.

Might one speculate that our friend is an employee of the company that sent Bewl Valley to the wall, and they are now desperately trying to talk up some income so they don't have too massive a hole in the income statement to explain to the boss...

Or we could give SailorSimon the benefit of the doubt and accept him as trying to promote sailing at what is definitely one of the better south east venues.
I have no hidden agenda or Bewl interests by the way.

Would love to think like piglet, but on the balance of probability I tend to think like Jim c on this one.

Already done, note how there were answers to the Q's about insurance and qualifications but nothing about any interest in the venture....

I know they're balking at the cost of (None RYA) insurance, we have spies everywhere..

This is a commercial con, trying to continue to act within the covenant that says the place must be used for sailing. It needs boycotting imv.

Ask what's happened to the icebreaker series.
