Tasar of course has a single floor so you can sit in comfort etc. If I wanted to get forward I just crouched in the crew hole with my back against the thwart ore rode the centreboard case like a saddle.
My Tasar is now grey and white, painted this morning. Ready for a thrash at weekend. Very satisfying as I had abandoned it for 4 years in the undergrowth. I had to repair the Mylar main where a bloody mouse had eaten through the bag and snacked on a bit of mylar. These Derbyshire mice have teeth like tinsnips and bionic digestion. b**tards.

Peaky
Do not worry it will only ever be an 'option' - no compulsion to fit or use. And no there will be no 'hoop' option or similar allowed. The key point is that feedback indicates the basic thwart option is wanted by quite a few out there. If the regular crew is used to class 'x' and it has a comfy reassuring thwart the helm (usually but not always the cheque book carrier !) can quickly pick up a subtle or less subtle 'veto' to the 'new'. They want 'happy crew' as well - and it means they WILL come out as well on that marginal day. Better than risk them even voting with their feet ... or maybe backsides ! There are disadvantages as well as advantages whichever alternative is taken up. We are making sure that the Icon Thwart can easily be fitted .. or removed so both the first and subsequent owners can make up their own minds. It will be kept light and simple ! .. and not compulsory. ... And we will possibly offer them in an attractive range of finishes as well as 'vanilla'. I'm sure we can do something a bit interesting for the Dinghy Show ... Mike L. |

That sounds fine. If people want to add a bench to their boat, who am I to stop them?
But someone should gently remind the crew's union that it is a water sport! That means a. they should get wet and b. they should feel some muscles ache

won't adding a thwart increase stiffness, therefore utterly obliterate and destroy your one design ethos? Will you have two PYs listed? Could the thwart be made from lead and used to create a totally magical weight equalisation system that will enable the ex Finn boys to sail against these lithe dancing farmer types we keep hearing about?
Or is that all a little strong and actually it really will just be a pretty plank for SWMBO to perch her little bum while she does her nails on the way out to the start line?

er ... No ! Are you suggesting that hulls without thwarts are like wet spagetti ? Sorry - that certainly does not apply to Icon - we don't need to rely on a thwart to impose stiffness on our boats thank you. ![]() If you want to think the alternative is therefore more likely ... well perhaps we had better just leave those thoughts to you. Mike L. PS ... Struth though I know if 'Dancing Farmer' reads this stuff he might start getting some inappropriate ideas about the use of 'nail polish' etc ... Well I suppose I'm broad minded enough provided there are no spills on the gelcoat .... |

I think I can see now why Peaky has had to switch from a double handed boat to a single hander!
