mildew, buckling, leaking, cracking, re-sticking, self tapping, stanley knifing... the occurrence of which is I agree, greatly increased by beach launching; but it still remains a a very real eventuality for all slot gaskets. I've seen grown men with upturned fireballs taking it very seriously and ironing them and using hairdryers on slot gaskets.... I really don't want to sound like Grumpf, but seriously... how ghey is that? It's one thing being all metrosexual with your Morphy Richards and Vidal Sassoon in the comfort of your own home, but down the sailing club in front of your mates? No way, give me a daggerboard every time thanks.

So clearly what we need is a comparitve review of the D-Zero, RS-Zero, Lasr and Solo. By a typical, net salary paying, weekend punter.

There are two tick, there's a new RS Zero as well, hence the excitement, spoilt for choice, not just one, but two new, might even be affordable, boats to get excited about, and I think it's going to be a very tough choice between them by the look of what we know so far.. |

James, Slot gaskets are only a problem if your launching and recovering in a beach type situation. If you have slip ways and pontoons they don't cause any trouble.

Centre board talk. 'rubber lips' on a Jagger Dagger.....
I wish I was not missing the show now, however I do feel that crowds will gather round the 'Punk' stand and ignore the rest...unless there is an alternative innovation of course. |

Dude you sail a Merlin, the chariot straight to rehab. Everybody likes a drink, nobody likes a drunk.

I think you would do well to re-read the edit- 'better than drab' before putting out any alleged negativity
![]() Drab being something generic on a kick-up seasure stock.... not that that I'm trying to point out potential differences of other craft- existing, speculated or otherwise. Anyway, the nicest foils I've owned were on my Musto Skiff, and I believe similar in style and operation to that on the D-One. Good to see the theme carried through on the D-Zero, so yes, on the info presented here so far, I see good quality foils as a positive. Unlike some others, the thought of owning a dinghy with a proper centreboard fills me with dread.... not so much the board itself, I can see some advantage in canting the CLR, but that effing slot gasket is not worth the benefit. I note on my raceboard it's not called a slot gasket- they go for something simpler, noting it down as 'rubber lips' in the manual.... I'll stop there before any of you merlin sailors get too excited.

This Time Lord was simply keen to know whether Yellowwelly thought the foils would be good or bad. As they are now considered 'drab' what would he like to have done to them to make them attractive? Pink finish perhaps to mirror his Solo?
It is all rather academic anyway to this Time Lord as unlike the 'billy no mates', he prefers to have a companion in the shape of a crew. |

As a Time Lord, one might have reasonably expected him to have transcended modern language anomalies.
As to the Punk name, other than it making my day or representing a particularly energetic rebirth of music during a period of gross out disco gheyness and coinciding with the explosive growth of the worlds finest watersport, I have no great attachment to it. Having said that D Zero doesn't exactly rock my boat with the obvious negative connotation of the title, but it's a boat, it won't stop me sailing it if I want to, only an absurd colour, horrible sail, or association with someone I regard as a total dick, might do that. I knew the use of that word would cause a reaction- dinghy sailors, nothing if not predictable.
