Good thread with no negative non contributing posts, counted 6 missing, one of them is iGRF/woodbotherer, when he was trying to sneak onto CVRDA, others may have changed names.

I started this 6 years ago ... forums have been over run by Facebook and Insta now. Not progress imho.

Absolutely not progress.  FB leads to the same questions being asked over and over as there's no historical search possibility.

I'm on both a forum and FB for my car, and the FB posts are decidedly more moronic.

Agreed, however it seems the way of the world now. Never will you see a 6 year old thread reappear on Facebook. Where as on a forum you can search. Forums can build a huge and useful knowledge base. But these days people need their social media fix.

There's a growing trend to dunp Facebook - for numerous reasons: privacy, democratic interference, the fact that it's really 'not cool' among under 30s - it's for Grannies and Karens (no offence meant to the resident OK junkie). I guess they hook them via whatsapp and insta instead.... although the latter needs to have some serious questions to answer about its pervasive effect on mental health - especially among young women.

TBH - the only reason I still have 'The Facebook' is because of the buying and selling group Ruscoe and I set up years ago.... purely off the back of this forum.  Although Jeffers and Nessa do most of the admin these days as I rarely log on and Russ is too busy with his bikes.  We've got over 30,000 members on that now.... it must be one of the largest 'dinghy' groups on Facebook, certainly from a UK-centric perspective.

If you want a halfway house in dumping Facebook, but still need an account for practical reasons, then I can highly recommend starting a new profile with ZERO 'friends' and no brand/page likes.  It totally f**ks with the advertising algorithms and you get some right interesting friends suggestions as it tries to profile you.

The biggest advantage is you don't get those awkward moments when Billy from your Year 9 Airfix Club shares a Tommy Robinson video.... and as we're coming up to September, it's great to know I won't be subjected to those damn school uniform photos.

As for this thread - interesting reading - I wonder what would have happened if the D-Zero and the RS Aero had run a few joint events under an umbrella tour?  Neither class seem to be very headline grabbing after the initial phase of enthusiasm.

I've genuinely got no idea on sales numbers for either.... both look to have the distinct advantages / points of difference, but I can't see that affecting the performance over a beer-can level, scratch race amongst warm and welcoming fellow sailors.

Whether you like FB or not, or other social media platforms, really is irrelevant. It is where many more eyeballs hang out compared to website forums. The Restart Sailing group on FB has garnered many more sailing people than on this forum for sure. If you want eyeballs, and discussion, Social Media is where most people go.  It is interesting also that the Restart Sailing FB group was where RYA representation and discussion was held - not Y&Y Forum

Buying and selling on 'that' facebook group is a farce, no protection, no comeback, facebook market place other than for local 'dross' is lethal. It had me driving up to the wilds of Essex with the cash to buy a bloody Contender only for a no show, waste of time and money. Facebook has lots of plus points for catch ups, banter, lost kit in watersports groups, keeping in touch with old friends and colleagues, but for buying and selling, five times more irritating than ebay with none of the security and don't even start me on the Chinese & US product con artists.

Exactly, and exactly why it'll go nowhere with the same old class & commercial vested interests doing the same old self destruction.
