Hello Denby,
Welcome to the Icon & this forum! I made the transition from conventional centre main to off the boom sheeting in the Blaze a few years ago. Took quite a lot of getting used to, but the key advantage in light winds was not having to move to the back to get round the mainsheet, which pretty much stops the boat. Biggest hurdle on the Blaze was gybing - no 'comfort blanket' of a load of falls to grab in the moment of panic!! Tacking in both Blaze & Icon I face forward and then swap sheet / tiller behind my back once over the other side. Whilst it does take a bit of getting used to, I wouldn't now want to give up the clear cockpit on either boat that off the boom sheeting gives. Good luck! Mike B.
