It is easy to weigh a board, weighing a dinghy is much more difficult so people don't do it.

Sounds like from what Blaze720 says we are being hoodwinked ... I think it would be helpful for him to share the measurements he has ...

... and risk a cease and desist order from someone with deeper pockets?  Nope, far better to imply something dark n' sinister about the entire incumbent industry, whilst being overtly honest on your own product to set you apart.

I think unless you've got access to new, unsailed boats straight from the yard, then your 'facts' could be questioned- legally speaking anyway.  Obviously 'we' all know 'who' Mike is referring to don't we?

What tolerance would you allow for your scales/weighing equipment?

I refer to no particular SMOD dinghy or class.  There is also variation within SMOD classes just like any other class, but sometimes we really struggled to find any as light as the owners believed them to be....

You can build very light these days but I'm not sure the majority of prospective owners would want them very very light for all sorts of practical reasons.   But we wanted to see where Icon would fit in, if built to a particular weight, with other classes so decided to ignore any claims and weight a representative sample ourselves.   One of the key things was to keep things simple but still to have a full carbon rig  ...

So you weighed a number of boats from various different yards (no finger pointing) and a general trend saw them (significantly) over their published weights?

Makes me kind of glad my Winder Solo was weighed and corrected with 3kg of lead, before then being independently verified by the Solo Association before I paid my balance.
