I was there,

Altough I wasn't able to race due to a bad knee injury occurred the
week before(damn...), I lent my boat to Michele Tognozzi and he
managed it so well to get the third overall place.

I met with Tim, his beautiful wife and little daughter and they were
so pleased to stay in Scarlino. I shot almost 2,000 pictures with my
DSLR and they're going online soon.

Only big smiles, a single OCS on the first race, no protests and
delicious food and drink(too much...) offered by Luca and the Club
shore team. Carlo Tosi -the only Italian umpire that is part of the
international staff for Weymouth 2012 - led the Commitee. The double-
point last race is an idea so genial it must be taken in serious
consideration for other classes too.

D-One is definitely a winner. Now the most important thing to do is
to start the International and National Classes.

Cheers,

- Matteo

Hi y'all.

Thanks for all your support.

I only got back last night, had a great time, and a good result too!

I learned loads, they are doing things different out there boat setup and downwind trimwise.

Lilly had fun too!

This guys name is Andrea Giammarini  an ex laser sailor, and to be honest he was in a league of his own in Scarlino.

When I was second just behind him, he was pulling away very slowly upwind, and by the time the windward mark came up he was approx 15-20 boat lengths in front....I reckon I was 10cm mast more upright, as I felt overpowered, but what I really wanted to comment on was his downwind speed.

The moment we went downwind....it was game over.

Apparently (and you can see it in this picture) the D-One prefers to be sheeted downwind.....I tried it both ways and this picture setup is by far the speediest.

The mast rake settings range from 6m70 to 6m90, and the weight range is between 65-late 90kgs, with the wings further out for the light bods of the fleet.

The racing was really close, even after a whole lap everyone was really close together....great racing.

It seems that whenever Tim travels there is some sort of chaos.  I seem to remember he was travelling back from Paris on Eurostar when they had problems with snow in the tunnel.  Next was his trip to Scarlino when the flight nearly didn’t happen, thanks to volcanic ash sent to us from Iceland.  Now, as he plans to head off to Bracciano, there is a threat of more ash disrupting UK flights.  I have to say that in spite of the travel issues that seem to surround Tim, I am extremely jealous as Bracciano is one of my favourite sailing venues.  Bracciano is a lake which lies about 30 Kms north of Rome and is an extinct volcano (oh no Tim!) which normally enjoys wonderful weather and sea breezes from the nearby Med.  The location, the food and the climate are to die for!  Even Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes chose Bracciano for their much publicised wedding.

It’s not too late to book your flight and compete this coming weekend, with a practice day on Friday and racing on Saturday and Sunday.  If you want details on this please PM me.  The website for the sailing club at Bracciano is http://www.avbracciano.com/regate/

Right then, all set for Bracciano.

Weather looks ok, volcano is behaving.

Wish me luck!

Some action from today's racing at Bracciano   Tim G is currently in 2nd overall (23 boats racing) with all to play for tomorrow - double points for last race in the series.
