Apology accepted, so you're part of the Salcombe Solo set, with matching flask, slippers and zimmer then?

Agree with Graham's 'do it'. I can see Clare in one now - and all three rigs so that Gwen and Johnny can step out if their Teras , and fatty daddy can play in it when its windy and he's too tired/old for his 300.
Which kind of makes the cost issue less from a family perspective.

Having now seen a photo (though not from Riki despite my email request) I'd say it looks alright- imagine a laser designed now... Lots of questions, not enough bandwidth on hotel inter web... I hope to sail one, the lines look good, the design is nice and simple. An elegant presentation- if minimalism floats your boat.

Single hander Light Carbon Spars, (2 piece for storage) sealed Self draining Doesn’t invert easily Get back in over the transom Sail track Centreboard Centre main Gnav, (simple not RS100 or 300 style) Wide beam to save knees Performance High boom Stands up unattended Storage, (mars bars, drink and top) This would be my wish list for the new SH boat. In the
absence of pictures it seems quite a few of these are met. I don’t want to start a forum design process, the 100 thread was interesting but it ended up with too many cooks I’m afraid. But, going back to the sail, if it is sleeved, why different size sails? Doesn’t track plus other sail sizes work better. Sleeved implies roll round mast reefing to me. One of the reasons the lightning is hard to get hold of is that it is so simple to rig, (that’s why they called it the lightning in the first place). So for those who have seen it what else gets ticked? I notice MW didn’t confirm a gnav as part of the concept. Finally, isn’t this what Steve Cockerill was doing? Does
this mean that’s a dead project now? P.S. Pictures do save typing !! |

Surprised to see the Gnav so far up the list! Why would you want one? As far as designers and mast makers are concerned it is only used where there is not space otherwise. In a single hander I don't see why you should need one unless you are going for the musto skiff look as they did on the 100. Also, the system on the 1/300 is much less complicated than the usual equivalent! Centreboard etc is a bad idea from a cost point of view. I think the target at the moment should be making it cheap so that a proper fleet forms, not just a few cash rich people who can easily move on if they get bored.
