Mackerel? When they're running, yes of course, boat loads, murders their handicap.

So.. Another subject, what's going on with the flushing strips?

The new ones I fitted today, have an arrowhead shape cut at the stern end, what's that all about?

Gave my boat a bit of a going over, you have to watch the screws in the centreboard pivot securing clip, they tend to work free, at least mine had. It's easy to tighten the aft screw, but bloody nigh impossible to get to the forward one, I can't remember how I did it last time, think I used one of those flexible twisty extension things with a drill bit holder in the end. I really should have gotten a new spinnaker halyard its all worn and rough on the hands, I can see me breaking another nail..

One thing rigging the boat convinced me, now the handicap for the small rig is what it is, the boat is a waste of money and I think I shall sell it, no point even attempting a handicap series under that number with the small rig.

I shall press on with the V-Twin, there really is nothing out there for lightweights to contemplate, short of buying the epoxy Streaker, or returning to a Blaze.

This sport is definitely the province of the clinically obese these days.

get your club guys to give you 1020 as a starting point (buy them lots of beer) and let them reduce it by 5 every time you win (and promise not to accept any series prizes).

I bet you'll (like me) still be 1020 at the end of this year.

the RYA number is 998? with no differentiation between 10.2 and 8.4. So 7 points less than the manufacturers recommended. One could justifiably suggest the 8.4 is now 1007, to maintain the 9 point gap.

How could you justifiably say that With no proper returns ? I hate to say we told you so, but there was no proper way to define the two sail types.  If they had been called to different things like the RS108 and the RS110 then i feel you would of got two returns and as such two PY's.  The garbage about different sail swoosh colours is nonsense, its like one of my kids spot the difference pictures.
On a positive note could you not amend the rules alowing swapping rigs between events?  That way you can have the penny and the bun....

What about the arrowhead in the flushing strip, what's the logic there?

What about results from the nationals and euro regatta?  These might appear to show that skill factor is more important than sail size -  ( with more 8.4s in the top 10 than 10.2s in the overall results )

If the lumped together PY is 998, then increasing the 8.4 to 1007 would mean changing the 10.2 PY the other way to compensate...  to 991 LOL

Did your club do a PY return? If not then have done nothing to support you.

On that subject is there any plans for clubs to differentiate between the rigs in their returns? So we see if there is any real difference in the rigs over a longer period of time.

OK - my suggesting 1007 for 8.4 was about encouraging Graeme, and his club to excercise their right to set local handicaps. i have little justification for making that statement - and in practice so far of course at class regattas it seems there is little or no difference - the weather and crew skill being deciding factors.
The "arrowhead" in the slot gasket is to allow water to escape.
Allowing swapping between sails - would be a matter for the class to decide - I would suggest that most would vote against?

My club couldn't agree on what time it is.
There is absolutely no chance they'd do anything other than what the RYA lists.

I guess like most clubs, they're dinghy sailors after all, what else would you expect?

And anyway it's manual office sort of work, 2nd level managerial stuff, nothing windsurfers would be interested in, just buy something else - simples.
