I see the riders in the Endeavor Trophy have been announced. I seldom feel bitter but one wonders what a sailor has to do to manage to be selected for this event. I of course am not the sailor in question but some contributors to this forum will understand my frustration.

I believe the class gets an invite to participate. they then nominate the sailors to take part (usually the national champion Helm plus a crew.

Sail a class with a regularly large Nationals turnout, and so be noticed by the organizers, I guess.

Don't think the cvrda Nationals count, sadly!

Maybe the smaller classes should organize their own set of races?

Thinking about it, I'd love to see racing between the top small singlehander class champs - say Byte, Lightning, British Moth, Streaker, Solo, Splash, Topper, & whatever else fits the 11 or 12 ft category. Sailed in something like a Topaz...

Rupert, many years ago there used to be such an event at my club sailed in Toppers. Ran out of sponsorship I believe, but that was before my time.

The organisers do seem to have a list of preferred classes, but I'm not sure its in Nationals turnout order or anything like that...

Seems a bit pointless getting frustrated on someone else's behalf.

It would be interesting to see a table of classes who have produced Endeavour results in say the top 5 or 10 over the years.
This would give a measure of the quality of racing in fleets.
You would need some means of acknowledging people like Nick Craig and Geoff Carveth 'belonging' to more than one fleet.

One thing you don't know is which classes were invited and turned it down. I've known at least two people who did the event once and vowed never again.

Not really a useful one though.
Different boats demand different skills. The Endeavour only tests skills in medium paced ploddy boats because that's what its sailed in.

Tickel's avoiding any accusations of bragging; unnecessarily so, there's no shame in being proud... iirc, it's one of those relationships where when something 'unjust' occurs, it affects you more than had the same thing happened to yourself personally.

I don't know the criteria Tickel- but would suggest you make contact with the association ASAP to establish if they were invited to submit a candidate.
