Tying each boat to a line on an entry form is also tricky if you aren't sure what you are looking at. Oddly, we have 2 boats with 2324 on the sail at Whitefriars. Luckily one is a Contender and the other a Firefly.

Not sure, but I sailed at a UKLA open meeting where the winner sailed with a Olympic 2012 coloured sail, without numbers. I have heard these are out of class (not sure why they should be out of class, just what I've read on other forums)

The RO asked if anyone wanted to protest him but nobody did.

And the club is still hosting opens

Being able to identify rigs can become an issue at large class events if both (or all 3) fleets end up finishing at the same time.

Yes in theory they all have unique sail numbers but I know it caused havoc at the master this year.

I notice that fake goods are sold on ebay as 'Homage'. Presumably there is software that picks up words like 'fake' or 'replica'. So we have Laser homage sails. Very nice.

That is a little different again. I assume it was out of class for reasons of sail numbers, or branding, or something, not because it was effectively a different type of sail.

Should the race officer and his team have to identify the nuances of the OEM?  This is all made more murky by the manufacturers and CAs tolerance of knock off sails

At UKLA events that would fall to class reps to enforce OEM.
Outside of UKLA it's down to the sailors to decide what equipment is acceptable by means of protest.
