Forecast for sunday looks perfect for having friends over... my life might be ruled by sailing, but participation on Sunday might be limited to advice on fixing an eps wing.

I reckon the only way you can gurentee a large single-class fleet of the boat you want to sail is to win the euromillions and buy the boats yourself- then rent them out at a pittance.

Currently forecasting rain & F5 gusting F7/8 for Sunday.
I'll certainly enjoy the memory of it afterwards!
Hard work for you monomaran guys I guess.

yep - you see, perfect conditions for an 84L wave board and a 5.0m sail.... no offing dinghies getting in the way either. LOL

Oh well, the Montepulciano goes very well with the steak I guess.  And if it's cold we can even put the fire on and light some stupid candles from Jo Malone to set the right ambience.

Around here,  there is plenty of good close OD racing.
Open keelboats.
Victory, XOD, Squib, etc.
No great issues about helm weight!

It's great racing, but I prefer to compromise on the racing to sail a boat I enjoy.
But I don't rule out racing in one of these classes at some point.
Neither do I rule out cruiser sailing again if the dinghy sailing gets stale.
People should try different branches of sailing IMHO.

I could see myself racing a squib if I lived by the sea, near a fleet of them. After all this time, they must have something good going for them apart from fleet racing - after all, plenty of fleets of keelboats have vanished when the new toys came along. Must have a go in one, one day.

I actually found the one time I sailed a Squib I hiked stupidly hard for long bouts at a time given the penchant for long cruiser courses.... the helmsman/owner was very courteous though, I think he bought me 4 pints of Stella in the bar afterwards.... given how dehydrated I was it was enough to numb the pain.

Seriously little keelboat racing is good fun.  The 15 sailors at our club seem to love it and stick with it year after year.... given a more regular sailing calendar I could quite see a future purchase in that direction.

Jesus that sounds like banal middle class purgatory. Is that really what you work hard in the week for?
Surely if they are any sort of friends they will know that you need to go for a solid life affirming windsurf sesh, such that you don't feel compelled to shave your head and climb a clocktower with a high powered rifle when the chat about school catchment areas / "property" whatever that is / strictly celebrity british bakeoff in the jungle becomes too much.
Anyone want a feral man cave?
