Suction cups are fine but, as always, use a tether line

Problem with the tiller is that unlike mr rooster we all waggle them about too much.

Less so once moving though Simon.  Actually following Dans training and time in the boat.  The Zero really punishes over use of the tiller.  So i have conciously made an effort to remove wagling tiller action.

Its worked a treat for tacking in lighter airs.  Dan pointed out that most if not all of the fleet were using the rudder to steer against roll.  Which is slow and conter productive.  So a tiller mount would really highlight over use.   Boom mount (used that befor on 505) is only really good for upwind and even then not that great.

Some more D Zero news: http://www.d-zerosailing.org/the-d-zero-arrives-on-the-isle-of-man/

Interesting to note that there are some RS Aeros scheduled to arrive there shortly. Will be interesting to watch the result of the on the water battles. The only other place I am currently aware where they are going head to head is Nottingham SC on the river Trent (which is hardly representative for either give the course restrictions).

The Zero does 'hull steer' really well (for those who can sail rudderless) I found it hard to do when it was really light. Leeward heel to start the boat heading up just didnt work then flipping the heel mid tack to get a good roll I struggled with.

In a bit of wind it worked really well though and always best to get the rudder to follow the turn rather than use it to initiate the turn.

Thats right Paul, i was starting to get to a reasonable level at it during the training.  The boat gives so much feedback and rewards great technique.  Its all about time in the boat i guess.   I have it etched on my brain now.  Its not anything new just more obvious in the zero.  So its best practice i guess.

Looking forward to the GGP now.  9 boats entered currently with more promises.  Lets hope its blowing Dogs off Chains!

Tiller cams suck balls. The view is crap and too static to be interesting unless you have a second camera. Boom mount is far superior.

Kev how do you film the boat down wind or on a reach? With the boom out?  Think about it....like I say I ran a boom mount on my 505 and it was rubbish!

Providing you have the widest point of view, about 180degs, set on the camera then you'll be able to see where the boat is going and what is happening in the boat regardless of the point of sail. All that without having to look into someone's split arsed wetsuit on a run.

The problem I have with tiller cams varies from boat to boat and the vertical mounting position. RS100s and 300s are bad for this because lots of the videos have the camera mounted on the tiller which is quite low and all you can see is the inside of the boat, not what is happening outside of it. Boring.

The other alternative is mounting it on the bow looking back but it's only interesting to watch if other boats are behind you and in the shot.
