Tim,

Check out the You Tube footage of the Melges 24's at The Volvo Cup
there last week (I think ?).

They all looked pretty well togged up.

Serious wind and waves ! Reckon you will probably need a spare pare of
pants as well (check out the Melges broaching) !

Good luck

I've been out in Sardinia about this time a couple of years back and that
was on the end of a similarly cold winter (It had snowed on Sardinia,
unprecedented.) and it has been cold down there. My nephew just got
back from Olympic Trials further south than that in Spain and said it was
still fairly Baltic.

They've been having the same Northerlies we've had and it's kept the
water temp pretty chilly.

So I wouldn't pack summer and if you're lucky and it does turn warm, it's
easier and cheaper to pick up boardies and sunny stuff than it is to get
wintery warmers down there.

(Oh and it was definitely chilly glad I packed a hoody and used a spring
autumn 3mm short arm steamer when I was in Sardinia in early May.)

I was down in the Adriatic doing the Jadrolana race - Vrsar-Dubrovnik
and back. During the day, it was quite hot, even with 5 Bft. At night
temperatures went down to around 7°C. needless to say take good base and
middle layers and a MUSTO MPX drysuit.

By the way, we cleaned up all the trophies there were to be had...

Given the Eurostar is most likely booked out from here to eternity, get a ferry to Calais, a TGV to Paris, a sleeper train to Milan and then a couple more trains? I guess budgetry constraints might prevent this being a solution...
