That's not a 5 oh in my post....

I have the measurement cert for streaker 1308, built 1989.  I've just looked at it and it doesn't give a weight, nor is there anywhere on it for the weight to be written.  It just says it 'conforms'.  At a guess I'd say the streaker is now around 60 -65 kg.
the same, but different...

So has the Streaker or Streakers in question got such a measurement certificate? (Bearing in mind, build enough of them and it overcomes the 10% rule if you have such a thing in dinghy world)

Funnily enough, the sailor in question is the class measurer. He bought his boat new from Rooster and would be far too honest to try anything underhand.

He might be far too honest and I don't want to go casting public aspersions that could get my ass sued, but if it were me, the last thing I'd tell a punter would be ooh I've really fixed it for you so it can win, he wouldn't like it, nor would he want to know.

Then again you have to admit the only commerce in town right now in this market is for warmed over old classes, built down to weight pro jockeyed into the Public eye with a nod and a wink at the PY and the knowledge that the system works so slowly that some reasonable volume sales will result.

All in the name of keeping good old boys classes in builders, but come on surely I can't be the only muppet to spot what's going on? It was only when they showed me what these modern computer programmes can do to speed up hull shapes I finally clicked what's probably going on.

Not saying it is mind, just saying it could be. Wink

Perhaps the phantom started a trend then grf. I know that all the plastic boats up to the ovington ones came from one class licenced mould built by Vandercraft boats. Once ovi got involved they tweaked it ever so slightly to reach max length (1" approx) but no more.those are the only two mould that have existed. The hull shape has not changed

Well it's nothing new and has been going on forever in one way or another in lots of One Designs, I remember helping someone put a double concave hull into a Scorpion back in the 80's never knew the outcome, wasn't interested.

But the essence of this chaps post is clearly another Phantom, this time for Lightweights, I should get one and go beat up the local lake just for the craik.

But really what satisfaction could you take from that?

hang on, is this the same guy who in another thread was complaining that the lighter and very considerably hull shape tweaked Alto was given the same handicap as a 505?

Yes but they didn't call it a 505 did they?

My point precisely, they're not trying the easy route, which would be just to build one down to weight (if that was possible within their rules) It's an entirely different boat, similar in length but that's where the similarity ends.

Not difficult to spot the two bloody great chines down the hull.

Or the self tacking jib, pole system and flat deck.

Which is why it's so wrong that Bandits like the V3000 get to use the L3k handicap, yet the Alto gets unfairly compared with a boat with 20% more sail area..

Graeme, the v3000's at willsonian run off 975, we always offer a handicap drop for ourselves such as at the MOK the hythe regatta the ggp and many other events but race officers seem to think that it cannot be that quick, we offer the handicap change and leave it to the race officer to make the decision. You must realsise we have only sailed the v at hythe once this year an that was the MOK. We raced the laser boat all year and won both the Thursday evening series.   The alto may have a marginally smaller sail area but has a lighter hull, more efficient sails. Also the other boats that are giving the handicap returns are better set up than the prototype boat that you currently own. The "pros" that have been sailing the boat recently are newbies to the class and aren't pros at all, they are like you and me.

Is that actually the V3000 class fault or the PY system? When more V3000's get into the results and returns go to the RYA then their PY will deminish. I think you'll find that the name L3000 and V3000 are two different names, bit like the AC & IC really. No-one is pretending that they are the same boat, are they?
