Well it's the wrong way up for a start and who would make a boat that colour. Looks like a punk to me - oh and it lacks hydrofoils and a t rudder . Oh yeah and I can't see the filler for the water ballast or the canting wings. LOL

Is the Vortex getting a new lease of life post Laser? Or is this more obscure?

However with changes in materials, design and even typical income what might be considered stiff enough, cheap enough and light enough has varied greatly over the years.

As a top of my head example as simple a thing as an improved gel coat material allowing the gel coat to be significantly thinner could save a lot of weight and with luck a bit of money too.
Well yes. That's why people like me have jobs. Stronger, tougher, stiffer, cheaper. The holy grail of materials development. Always chasing it. Get the first three, means you can use less material, which makes things lighter and helps with the "cheaper".

Yes is the answer. Check out the Vortex website. New moulds being developed at white formula. Good news IMHO as a stable base to try helm trapezing.

However, while you might use less material, you have to pay the clever people like you who develop the stuff, so very difficult to make a hitec boat cheaper than a lowtec one, even if using half the materials. This is not to say we shouldn't be developing the materials and using them. After all, today's new wonder material is next week's normality!
