Everyone keeps saying the 2k would suit the sprint event,

whilst its a brilliant event i think the 2k on average is too slow and would slow down the sprint idea of rolling fleet starts, that is one of the strongest appeals of the event that it is quick fire racing with a number of classes in the RS range with not much hanging about bobbing on the start line,
the last two years Rutland have really got this event ticking and do a superb job of race management. Personal opinion is that the 2k would it be to added would take the gloss off the event!!!!

Correct but if RS were going to be building and marketing all the blurb would say RS rather than LDC Racing....and important distinction I feel.....

RS are on facebook offering to sell me one....  and they are still the same people in the same building.  It's a branding thing, nothing more.

I suspect the Branding Thing is going to be rather important in the way that the boat is assimilated into the current range of boats. Yes, still the same people (Demo Dave will be on the end of the phone if you want to buy one, I'm sure) but maybe more of an independant feel compared to the RS package.

interesting use of the word 'assimilated' Rupert... I'm sure RS would be more than aware not come across as 'the Borg' with this.

Personally having RS back it adds gravitas and a sense of future proofing that the class lacked previously, however not everyone would share that view, so a little independent branding should satisfy everyone.

i guess i am presuming that as a boat hitting the middle of the weight range graph, it would be bloke and woman crew combination like the RS200 and really i am trying to distinguish the age group really.
Is it full of younger/uni folk like the 200?

Me not knowing much about the fleet is a bad thing that can only be helped by RS and the marketing they pump into the class.
Hey like it or not, pictures of girls walking round garda in a bikini sells boats!

....and Peaky, its far from insulting, i can take insulting to a whole new level!

Hey, no worries James. I'm not yet (or any longer) any of those groups, so I got away lightly! But I'm used to my six year old insulting me - every day he seems to come up with a new, and particularly cutting, remark!

Certainly at our club the 2K is generally the last boat owned before moving to something with a keel on it.

For those who haven't enjoyed a 2000 Open:
Active racing members of the fleet vary in age from 10 to 12 up to the mid 70's. ALL ages within that range appear at most Open Meetings (although the extreme ends tend to check the forecast fairly carefully!).
There were certainly 15 to 20 (APPROX) people aged 15 to 25 (APPROX) at the last Nationals. Whether that counts as "lots" or "not enough" will depend on what you are looking for!
ABOUT half the boats have a female helm or crew (or both).
ABOUT a third to half the boats will have two people from the same family sailing together.
ABOUT 90% of the fleet are extremely friendly and will welcome you whatever your standard of sailing... and we are working on the other 10%!
