Eat more pies, a) so you don't need wide racks
                      b) so you can then gain more muscle to lift!

im on a building weight diet too. lots of tuna (very nice on buttered toast-sound bad but try it )

rowing machines are bad for that, they improve cardio fitness and reduce fat percentage in the body. you want to raise it so that when you do weights you can convert fat to muscle. once you are slightly above the desired weight THEn you do the cardio stuff which will reduce you body fat percentage again. for people with a low  natural body fat level its the putting on the fat first which is the hard part.

incidently, having a 6pack is all about body fat levels. a low body fat percentage and your muscle will stand out as they are not covered by fat.

sad that i know all this isnt it

you CANNOT convert fat to muscle.  a complete myth.

If you want to build muscle you have to lift heavy weights and make sure you have your protein-carbs-fat ratio worked out for your specific body weight.

unfortunately lifting heavy weights is not particularly good for sailing fitness as although it builds strength - admittedly good for the one-off boat lift - it does not build endurance, whereas a working out on a rowing machine will!

anybody wanting to change their body shape always does best to consult an exper in their local gym or leisure centre and be prepared for a long hard slog - gaining weight can be much harder than losing it, particularly if your body type is not designed to be muscular.

my apologies, i expressed myself wrong. you do not break down the fat to convert it into muscle. by having gained fat (as mass) you know your body has enough energy/food to produce muscle. if you are doing weights without this then it is likely you do not have enought food/energy in order to grow the muscles properly in which case it can be counter productive.

winging it is right though, a lot depends on your specific BMI (body mass index), daily intake of food and most importantly your lifestyle and what you eat. if your just getting fit the rowing machine will be great (best cardio machine in my opinion as it works shoulders, legs, back etc) for weight gain, go to a specialist.

Now now childern - there is ONE simple answer to all of this............. sod the gym and get a 12, if you build more "lard" just get a bigger rig

Not quite wot my mentor agreed with when I went for my nutrition and condititiong for my scholarship............ but ill let my race results tell the story I reckon.

Indeed I am a bit chubby but a "blanced" diet of pies, pasties, butties and some fruit mixed in with alot of sailing (after all it does build up ALL the necessary mucles) and endurance cycling to build stamina.

But go see an expert if you wana change your body weight - they always know better than the averge joe
