You can choose a personal number when you buy a d-one - it has no relation to boat production or country numbering.

So I assume you can't choose one that has already been issued? Sounds a bit like number plates. Never got the reason for personal plates, either.

sort of, but it also has kudos in some classes where they are linked to world ranking. I find it also helps to keep internet passwords memorable; but I guess a decent security protocol would advocate against PSNs and for an added measure, changing your boat more often too.

Thanks to LDC we had two Aeros on demo during the Thornbury SC Club Week in addition to the Aero that a member purchased a few months ago. Everyone who had a go thoroughly enjoyed the boat, and many have said they may well procure one when funds allow.
Interestingly different people had different views on the way the boat behaves. Personally my view is that the boat finds an easy groove upwind but I struggled downwind to find a comfortable position from which I could react when the inevitable roll to windward occurs. As a result I suffered several swims. I have only sailed with the 7 rig. Several younger and lighter lads took the Aero 7 out and had the opposite view, finding it a challenge to keep moving in a chop upwind without the bow getting pushed off the wind, so I conclude that either different sailing styles or an extra 15kg makes a significant difference to how the boat sails upwind. In Aero 5 mode one of our clubs Oppie sailors found it manageable and enjoyed the experience but clearly to be competitive needs to be a bit bigger while one of the young women at the club really got the rig working well and was able to stay inbetween the RS200s and the Graduates when the breeze filled in. Initially I was not a big fan of the boat when it was launched but that was possibly due to my cynicism of the marketing guff, but I am now firmly of the opinion that its a great boat, I just need to find a way to sit downwind to enable some reactivity if needed. |

Blimey, 5.5hrs and still no riposte from Jeffers on this topic that's in danger of becoming a proper luv in! Just brace yourselves for liberal accusations of fanboyism.

Glad you like it Lionel, I reckon there'll be a Tasaresque Aero 2 along soon!
