Not sure what you are getting at with the example above? Surely if a class starts at a 4 figure number, they will either continue upwards or do what the 2000 did. Either way, newer boats have newer numbers. In the case of personal sail numbers, I'd assume the boats still have registered sail numbers, stamped somewhere on the hull.
Personally, I prefer the idea of starting at 1. |

The idea of HIN numbers means means the hull is independent of the sail number. Some classes use the same number range for differing countries so you can have a USA101 and GBR101. Does mean if you transfer a boat between countries you will need to apply for a new sail no if you want to be absolutely correct.

I understand the hin number idea, it is the idea that if boat 659 is sail 1659, which might make it seem newer than boat 1025... Surely boat 1025 would either be 11025 or 2025, either way newer.

Exactly boat 1025 would be sail no 2025 if you start at 1000 (or 11025 if you follow the 200 class example).

It''s still bullsh*t and doesn't help recording numbers, lasers are particularly irritating but then they have at least earned that right through the passage of time, there was no need to do it with this class so soon.

I don't know.....I have a very shaky understanding of modern life. All these Aero's...... has a law been passed that we have to sail them? Like the one where we have to marry men or wear shorts?

I'm afraid so. You also have to give all your money to the bloke who knocks on the door and says your roof needs work. |

I don't see the problem. the numbers just go up like every other class.
HIN's and registering boats is a load of crap. I have a 2004 boat which probably has one of the newest GBR sail numbers in existence as I bought it abroad and had to register it as a British boat. But I can't remember that number as I race it under my personal sail number, unique to me, rather than the boat. Plus half the sails have a foreign PSN on them. It becomes a right ball ache, especially when you put in an insurance claim for a boat that you have been sailing under a PSN which doesn't match up with the number you insured the boat under haha Edited by Jamesd - 02 Sep 15 at 8:58am |
