The class is about innovation and new ideas so you also carry the risk your £30k could be superceeded a month later by a newer design ...

The last 2 POW winning boats have sold (second hand) for £12k. The same boat has won the last 4 worlds ie every one since 2008.
I think turnkey for an essentially custom boat £25k. less if you like splicing and screwing (fittings) ie not far of 49er money and they don't last.
Khan and his pals built 3 identical boats out of an existing canadian mould and had the same guy fit them out, same rigs etc and did a lot of training with Hamlin et al for 6 months before that regatta at the venue, oddly enough they did ok!
Nothing much changed in hulls in the last decade, which is a good lifespan for any racing boat. Foils have got skinnier I grant you. Sails changed a bit but they are consumables.
Sure if you want to explore development avenues in a professional manner it will get pricey, but I firmly believe that you can win the nationals for less in the 14 than in the RS800.

Anyone who's wealthy enough to buy a yacht but choses to sail a dinghy instead seems pretty switched on to me.

There are plenty of affordable dinghies, and there is room expensive ones too. 14s are special and still cheap compared with a Beneteau!

Much easier to justify spending on a yacht than a dinghy to the other half.

I found it strangely odd keeping quiet about how much I spent on a used Phantom whereas I did openly spend 25 times that on a big boat (a cruising yacht). One is seen as a selfish purchase, whereas the other isn't.

I've got some IC archives at home at the moment. Just came across the NOR for a race (a single race down the Thames) in 1866. Entry fee 10s (=50p I suppose I have to say!), 1st place prize money £5. To put that in perspective the average weekly wage was around 16s (80p). Going to complain to Sailjuice about their entry fees?

They do look fun, but despite my love of scows, the bowsprit off the blunt bow never looks quite right.

I'd be interested to see that if you could email me a copy.

Thanks,
