I don't think there is any class bashing going on in this thread. A little bit of too tight ruled SMOD criticism, yes, but no harm in that, it is just a view point.
Cirrus, would I be allowed to rig a Blaze pure aft main? I think it would work really well, right up to the point when I wanted the boat to gybe when I wanted it to, not when it felt like it! I never did have a go in the Punk with the aft sheeting coming along the floor to the rachet block. Must have been well thought out to avoid the friction I can see could be a problem? |

Why move traveller... Please go ahead, if we ever get to sail one Against each other, I will make a ham fisted attempt to make full use of that adjustable thingy, you on the other hand can wrestle the falls from mid boom, hoping the point loading doesn't snap it...

Rupert, agreed....always seems to revert back class bashing version 1.1. Whilst I'm often classed as the instigator. I have not posted here all year. Just popped in today to see if I had missed anything. Doesn't look like I have to be honest

Well, it was a fairly reasoned discussion up to that point!
While the free, how you like it sheeting arrangement didn't appear to be for the Zero (and there could be all sorts of design/structural issues why not, there are plenty of classes which do allow variety. You can even aft main a Solo if you really want to! |

Because that's not how our rules are written. Have you even read though our rule set before branding the class as having a "straight jacket" conformity model? For an SMOD we have some pretty open rules. You may not like them, which is fine. Frankly if you don't, probably best you don't buy the boat Cirrus. But then again that's never going to happen is it given current/previous involvement with the blaze. We certainly wouldn't change rules around sheeting arrangements to encourage GRF to join the fleet! The nice thing about the diversity and different options in this market space means you have a choice. I wouldn't buy a blaze because of the scaffolding and the recent carbon rig switch... I guess some people like that....lucky for the Zero and the class growth is that more people seem to think we are doing something right rather than wrong.....
Anyway I'm back in hibernation, wish I hadn't stopped by to see what was happening to be honest |

Why not simply allow any sheeting arrangement - centre-main, aft sheeted, 'off the boom' or whatever. Should make naff all squared difference in cost, is easily changed, and like toestrap details or tiller extensions etc is best left down to personal choice .... imo at least. GRF can then go for whatever cats-cradle he likes .. and anyone else can follow their own way just as easily. SMODs don't all have to follow a 100% straightjacket conformity model.

Aft traveller would probably be the first thing to go if I ever got one. It was OK on the punk with that unique beneath the deck arrangement but having dispensed with that, I think I'd move straight to centre sheeting particularly as it felt gutless trying to pump it downwind to catch a bloody Aero 7 that was having it away from me.
