Maybe he's just sailing it to get decent fleet racing?
Prabably..

He was also an OK man I believe, not that I've ever seen what an OK is, but suspect the bits it's made of would be better applied as part of someones wardrobe.

There's  bunch of them down at Kingsbridge, they all line up in matching bath towels, electric zimmer frames and even colour co-ordinate their tea flasks with their colostomy bags, I'm told. Wink

I've got a good few mates who swear by OKs.  They're quicker and lighter than the Solo, but essentially offer the same thing... class racing with ease of access at the bottom end of the cost vs benefit equation.  They also have a massive wind range for enjoyable sailing.   A sort of halfway point between the Solo and Phantom in layman's terms.

A friend of mine at Whitefriars, who, as he will freely admit himself, is not a master or a godlike being, but a sailor of moderate ability, has bought himself a 100. He seems to be having a ball with it, as is his teenage son. The kite only goes up when he feels he can cope with it, the capsizes are part of the game, and winning is not a priority.

Now, personally, I like to win, and would get frustrated sailing a boat where I knew I would struggle to get the last 20% out of it, as I would with a 100 on a small lake. So I would love to see a modern, moderate singlehander with a kite that works on RtC courses and is faster than the current crop of 12 foot boats. I'd love to play in one, too. But I'd have to think long and hard before buying one, spending thousands on a boat when I can get as much fun spending hundreds. It would have to do everything better - upwind, I'd expect it to point high and tack on a sixpence. Downwind I want to be able to carry the kite high and low. Light winds I want it to ghost along in the slightest breeze, like a Firefly does, but I want it to be manageable but a stonking ride when it blows.

Mr Wadhams - any chance of a boat like that, please? Oh, and it can't cost more than 5 grand!

... he builds one, it's called the RS Vareo, now with a skinny kite for RTC courses.

Thanks tick, I'm not sure even he knows who he is these days, everything that he held dear is changing around him so fast, sitting in the middle of a lake all alone on a wednesday afternoon in a boat costing less than a half decent womans handbag, was never in the game plan and if you'd told me it was my future five years ago, i think I would have slit my wrists, but it's nothing if not entertaining, the sh1t that I create for myself, sometimes I even read it myself (mainly because i forget almost immediately most stuff that passes across this keyboard)and think wtf were you on?

Maybe I should have been a woman.

Vareo does a little of the above, but having beaten the ones that were out last night by 1/2 a lap in the Lightning, I'm not convinced it is a good light wind pond boat.

Yup, this sums things up in one sentence. GRF: never letting self-confessed ignorance stand in the way of a half-baked, inconsistent opinion.

Er and we disagree in some way? That's exactly what I want now.

Me neither.  But having sailed one on open water up a long beat, I can assure you they don't feel like great upwind hiking boats either, even if that does sound a little oxymoronic.  I would liken the experience to downhill skiing without the ski pass.... it's a long, slow and painful walk uphill for the 5 minutes of pleasure coming back down again.
