The only windy one I have, courtesy of Jack Sparrow. I had just re-tied the kicker (slippy new ropes), and couldn't get any tension on - hence the twist. Was still fast though!

Hi Scotsfinn

Trouble is even when windy and fast on flat water Icon looks in still photos  .. well not that fast !   Its too damn efficient and does not chuck the wet stuff around.   We need to organise some gung-ho bursting through waves with the bow up .. and preferably at Garda imo !  The marketing image is very much up to Devoti to a major extent from now on - but I'm very happy to attend any photo shoot in suitable overseas locations whenever they want of course Wink.

Mike L.

PS - Am thinking about a 'hero' camera to get suitable stuff  for You tube (with suitable heavy rock track playing in background) over the winter when I get my own boat back and Andy the 'dancing farmer' aka Simon B finishes his harvest and returns to the front end of 03.  (But think we'll ask him not to dance at the Forumites meeting  - you lot will not be ready for that sort of exhibition !)

Ooh, not one of those boom end jobs, they make me a bit nauseous... something to do with the world moving around while the boat stays still...

If it doesn't figure strongly in the winter handicap opens, no amount of youtube will sell it.
But what it really needs is an open circuit, it's a big purchase for something that's only going to race on PY.
Forget Garda, let's see some decent results on the South Coast.
Can iCon cut it with the Merlins when the Force 5 is against the tide?
I can't see it being as much fun as a 400 on a breezy day.

Anyway, this thread's been running for years now, must be time for the armchair pundits to adopt a new 'class'?

I think the iCon is destined for larger markets than just the UK, Devoti have a lot of world wide fans for very good reasons, ask any Finn sailor from Alabama to Garda?

'RS400'

Of course the only valued feedback is ever from those who try for themselves .... We do get a lot of banter on this and other forums and informative and fun it can be ... But it is on the water that counts.  Come along yourself and have ago at the Forumites meeting or some other time to suit.   I don't comment too much on other classes at least until I've given them a go myself and always attempt to keep an open mind .. Hell I've even owned a 400 myself in the past and had little but general praise for it at the time.  Icon might never be your preferred ride but it will be for many.

The whole justification of working with Devoti as a small developer/builder was to give the project real legs and in time have a class with wide appeal across Europe and beyond - not just in the UK.   We don't apologise for being ambitious for Icon and that means particularly in the current market the sort of long term collaboration we have started at Devoti with Icon.  You need more than just a great boat to make it and Devoti in particular would not have committed if that potential was in any way lacking in their opinion.

But selling into an established class like the Finn is a very different game. Your product is measured against others and sells on its merit, combined with the merit of the class.
There are plenty of respected builders who have failed to sell new classes in any sustained way.

There are two types of people who buy new classes.
Those who think the new class will take off and give them good level racing, and those who wish to set themselves apart by having something a little different. The second group does not always help the first.
