And we appretiate it very much..... I think like any boat it has a sweet spot in terms of conditions and when everything is going for us its great but I have had several races where I have struggled to achieve anything like PY so it will be really interesting to see how it all plays out. I note the proposed HISC 8.4 PY is 1010 which is pretty close to the RS recomended 1014 anyway. I think the thing for me is understanding what difference the 10.2 rig (with a big guy on board) makes as I have only opted for 8.4 and have yet to sail against a 10.2. Cheers, Keith.

Well I struggle to get the 8.4 to work at a PY of 1035..
It can't just be me, I'm actually not that useless now. 0 - 8 kts I can make it fly, big sail obviously, beyond that, small sail I'm toast. |

Me too - I am sure I have posted some >1060 times with the 8.4. (1060 is the PY we use for the Skuds which I have been racing against). last Sunday in ~8 to 10 mph breeze and with the 8.4, I could only just outpace a full rig laser upwind if I was hiking like hell (and I suspect the laser wasn't really trying) We get a second 100 to Rutland this week though so really looking forward to that Edited by asterix |

As I only have the 8.4 rig I dont know any different. Last night was a very gusty F4 ish and had horrible chop and upwind I struggled to hold pace with the 200's (all of which are pretty good). However downhill when I pull up the Turbo boost the speed was tremendous. I have come to the conclusion while racing 200's that if I can just about match them upwind I am safe as I can take out a decent margin downwind. If I beat them upwind then I know I'm safe. As it happened last night I did struggle upwind and the leading 200 was able to stuff high in the gusts and I simply cant do that so I was sailing off trying not to stall so he was a tad quicker upwind. It was also beating against the tide and running with it so probably my worst conditions. I finished within 20 seconds of 1st 200 and 20 seconds ahead of a well sailed K6. Really close racing and its what I would expect as we are all very similar ability. Feet hurting this morning!!!!! Cheers, Keith. |

Hi Keith, That sounds great. Going from RYA figures for 2010 the K6 PY is 903, and the RS200 is1057. I would suggest that the K6 may not be sailing to handicap. I would also suggest adjusting your adjustable toestraps, as your feet shouldn't really be hurting....pain usually comes from having them too short, maybe. Timg |

Tim, The 20 seconds on the K6 was corrected time. He was a good bit ahead on the water. For me it was great to have 3 boats ranging in handicap from 906 to 1057 all within 40 seconds of each other on corrected time. On toe straps last night they were let right off and I was hiking as hard as I possibly can. I find in the 100 that my legs are ok as its such a smooth deck to hike from but the tops of my feet tend to feel the pain. Probably need more padded boots. Cheers, Keith. PS- got some photos of me out in the D-1 last week - I will need to post them. |

Are you allowed wider toestraps?

Hi Keith, ok that would explain it. As for the toestraps....I only ever feel pain if I have my straps too tight, so I can't explain your pain, sorry. I look forward to the pix. Timg |

should have probably put on D1 thread but its all mixing into one for me. This was some pics of a go I had in a D1 that turned up at our club recently. The kite wasn't rigged properly as the pole did not go out properly. Fixed after the sail. Maybe its because I'm just mopre familiar with the 100 system but I found it alot harder to hoist the D1 kite and I wish they had a shorter kite bag. Kept catching my feet on it. Upwind the boat felt very nice with a little windward heel but I could have done with a bit more weight! Felt very quick..... I think this final shot shows how big the boat is. I also find it amazing how little fore and aft movement is allowed with the wings. Upwind I felt like I was sitting too far back and downwind I felt like I couldn't get far enough back. But again its just because its new and I'm not familiar with it. Overall really interesting to compare after sailing the 100 since Easter time. The D1 is clearly a much faster boat upwind than my RS100 8.4 but I still think I could have it downwind especially in a blow. Unfortunately the D1 here is probably leaving the club so it looks like I wont get a chance to compare performance round the race course. Cheers, Keith. |

Hi Keith, Your downwind picture needs loads more mainsheet, (to the rear quarter) probably why you felt your 100 could "ave it" downwind. I am looking forward to racing in Fed week, when we can all find out. I am guessing that the spinny halyard could do with being a tad thicker, that helps on the hoists. Timg |
