The human powered boat people have long been aware of that, but also of foil area - too little and you need lots of power to take off/keep going, albeit fast, too much and you're slow if you've got the power. This reply just an excuse to post the photo, really! : |

I think there are two different things here, which need to be seperated. First is the Tomahawk foil, which is a new type of foil using graduated ventilation to control the lift force. Second is the Morrison designed concept boat. I have no doubt that the Tomahawk foil is a massive step forward for user friendly foiling (compromising some increase in drag for ease of use at "normal" speeds), and I can't see why this foil system could not be retro-fitted to a number of classes, if desired, including a to Laser itself (althought the rig is probably too full and bendy to get it to work upwind). Shove a carbon mast and battened monofilm sail on a £500 Laser, fit the T-Hawk and off you go! I don't know much about the Ovi/Morrison boat, but I suspect there is a bit more development to go yet. At any rate, it would be wrong to judge the Tomahawk foil system based on how easy that one boat is to sail. |

More info on another website (Thedailysail.com). When it goes into production (May?) sounds like they will offer a non-foiling version, a foiling version and a foiling + trapeze version. Personally I'd prefer to keep it simpler and just have a hiking version. It's got wings, why complicate things with a trapeze (we have the 600FF for that already)?

There is more development to go, production in May is un-realistic. The boat we displayed at the dinghy show is a development prototype. For the record, the hull is Morrison designed, the foils Tomahawk and the product development has been done by Linton at Full Force. Ovington have been bought on board for production when the development cycle is completed should there be sufficient interest. The intention with this boat is to offer a non foiling version and eventually a trapeze version. As you can imagine to get all these configurations to work will take some time. |

Cmon Fellas - a 300 is perfect - why complictae with foils! If I wanted to fly I'd buy a plane/hangglider/parachute! Matt |

I called Linton a month or so back. Appatently the project is still on but he decided he should be trying to earn a living too. Unfortunately he does not have the huge resource to throw at the project as other manufactures do. He was very positive that his project will be a success and being the only one developing this concept that he has to get it absolutley right. From what he said about the enquires he has had there seems to be a demand for his concept. So still on but will not be as quick to develope as other concepts.
