My current smart attire of choice is Navy Blazer, grey or beige chinos and brown shoes. Bringing preppy back.

Seems over the last 15 years the 14s have gone from 65- 100 boats to less than 30 at the PoW ... Perhaps the squeeze on bankers bonuses has had an impact after all ... |

Or perhaps the 49er, 800 and general ambivalence towards double handers is the real reason...
Two decent moth or musto sailors are another 14 pairing that will never be..... Edited by turnturtle - 16 Dec 14 at 6:29pm |

Exactly - RS800 has taken a similar tumble.
30 boats for a double handed adult class isn't bad these days - lasers only get 40! Moth sailing and Mamil culture has taken chunks out of a lot of sailing classes. |

The price of a new 14 hasn't made an impact then?

I think if anything the 14s are relatively cheaper than they used to be. Pretty much all high performance sailing seems to have taken a hammering in recent years.

Yeah someone worked out a while ago that they have stayed pretty consistent with other equivalent measures if not got cheaper - i.e. ford sierra / mondeo!
Much cheaper than 2 moths! I have a theory that you could trot them out for £15k if you could guarantee volume sales. |

"I do like the Swordfish Nessa - a stretched Firefly, so I would, I guess! I rebuilt one back in the early 90s, & have sometimes wondered about getting one - a prettier boat than the Applecore."
I know where there's a Swordfish that needs saving. |

Hard to tell proably because of all the factors mentioned above, but any thoughts on how much effect did the class rule changes at unification have in the long (ish) term?
