Has there been any meetings of 100's against D1's down south yet?

Cheers,

Keith.

Well early on this year Nick and I had a race at London boat show, where I was quicker, but that was really ealry days for all, I had only been sailing it for 2 months. Then we met again at Northampton where Nick was quicker although (excuse) I had food poisoning and went home after race 1.

At Rutland Tiger where Demo and Chunks were there I caught Dave up on handicap (starting 2mins behind) but Chunks had an outboard on so he got away, dunno how.

I don't think we have had the chance to really race properly one on one on a windward leeward yet....should be really good.

Nick,

I have been sailing off 950 at my club since day one....the victim of the dreaded QM bandit radar, first implemented when the foiling moths came to the Bloody Mary I reckon....although its always been a controversial place to bring a new class.

I have a new thread that I want to start on handicap racing, but it may have been said before so I am going to do my homework before wasting everyones time  as I know I didnt contribute.

Well I'm pleased to read of TT's result and certainly never believed him to
be the muppet he claims to be.

I've had a right drought lately seems ages since I was last out racing, but
prior to that have had a few good results but only in lightish weather and
using the big sail which given my size and weight could be argued as
banditry.

Having said that, why is it no one considers the Laser a bandit? I'd say it's
as fast if not a tad quicker in the right hands than the small sailed RS
upwind and if the kite can't be deployed favorably will finish ahead never
mind handicap. I have a constant battle with our local laser expert and can
only deal with him effectively if the course favours the kite and that's only
ever once that I can recall.

He is a better helm than I and way better in strong wind being a tad
heavier and more dinghy experienced, in light to moderate I'd say were
evenly matched but I need at least a leg to leg and a half lead to be in with
a prayer of beating him on handicap and that only happens in very
favorable conditions to the RS (wind dropping totally just after I finish is
favorite).

So, I think it's still early days to call it a Bandit and as for the small sail I
think it's harsh already, taking an off the line drubbing by a SuperNova in
a force 1-2 was an unpleasant first ever occurence that consigned it to the
bin forever..

I had a line honours last weekend, first for ages. IMHO the 100 is faster than
a well sailed laser in all but the very light on a reach or downwind when the
kite isn't powered up. Its too early to tell on overall handicap but I think it is
pretty close. No kite and the 300 will be a fair bit faster on all other points.

Reason a 300 is like a moth - Clive Everest designed it, leading moth
designer. Not far off a productionised moth of the time.

The 300 is very like a 1970's Womble  moth by Pete Conway. ( but bigger )

300 + womble 70's moths - rounded, high rockered, flared wide-waterline hull, solid wings, unstayed mast, soft triangular sail.

90's moths ( inc late Magnums, Axemen, and Clive's own moths ) - slab sides, narrow waterlines, chined, tube rack/wings, stayed rig, fully battened big roach sails.

OK the 300 is narrow compared to most other boats, but is significantly wider than a moth.

I can't find the womble pics ... but here's haroosh's moth from the 90's. ( not really like a 300 )

Simon,

What were the wind and wave conditions and course layout as a matter of interest?

Andy,
great picture of 4034 but before some smart Alec points in out I
should say that that was it with it's original
owner ian forsdyke who won the worlds in her. Wish I had!
Great boat!
Cheers,
Keith

Nick, Tim has certainly been nobbled but not as much as the nobbling at HISC where the D-One PY seems to be 917   Perhaps, as a member of the HISC sailing committee you have some influence here and can put the record straight?  Has someone transposed second 2 digits here I wonder?

Rodney - think its you who has transposed the numbers - its down as 971 after I asked for that to happen last week!

The first week it was given the 400 HISC yardstick 930 ish - apparently Nick Rawlings (who does the HISC handicapping) was informed by Richard Stenhouse it was similar to a 400 last winter. I put him right.

All's well.

Nick.
